The paranoia resulting from Facebook pages and Twitter!

Does anyone else feel this?

I find that with my Facebook 'fan page' I'm always so paranoid that if I post something to do with my business I am annoying someone or if I lose a follower it gets me down...haha how pathetic!

It's the same with Twitter, I become quite conscious that I don't want to be at all 'spammy' and link or promote too much, but on the other side don't want to be too boring... oh the quandary!

I find with Facebook if ever people do invite people to join, sometimes it's a bunch of people who don't actually give a toss about my business and are perhaps just following in case there is a freebie involved. That or I find it's a lot of fellow makers following, which is always great as you need to support eachother but the idea really is to find potential buyers and not just to promote to other people in the same boat as you.

I guess the moral of this story is the quality and not the quantity of followers but I really want to find a way of reaching more relevant people and them actually being interested!! Haha...

....does anyone else have any of these problems?

I'm very interested in business and find social networking fascinating! I look at Facebook and Twitter as connecting with others! From my advantage point it's not about buying or selling, but about finding common ground and as you mentioned the support! I spend moments a day on these sites. I'm curious how much time others spend there?!?

do you have a business page for facebook? If so you won't feel that way because people have signed up just to hear about your shop. If you don't have a fan page I would suggest getting one... they are great!

I feel that way even though I have a fan page. For some reason, I don't care about spamming my friends! (haha) This results in me not posting often... :\

I find if you mix it up sometimes you won't feel that way. For some reason my fans love to see my back yard LOL. Like if a get a huge snow storm I will snap a picture out my back door of the snow drifts and say something like "Well I guess I am snowed in today... guess I will go work on making some peapods" And then maybe later show them a picture of what i made..

They also seem to like to see when I get new stones in... like if I get a pretty strand of gemstones I will snap a picture and say something like "oooohhhh look what i just got in... can't wait to make something" Then maybe the next week I show them what I made.

I also ask them advice. I was thinking of adding bridesmaid sets so I asked them to tell me how many people they had had in their bridal party to help me decide what # the most popular would be

This way you are not always hitting them with a link :)

Thanks! I guess I just don't think people would really care if I posted that. I'll have to be more bold. :>

I thought so too! you'd be surprised though... I get more people posting back when i post silly stuff ..
Anything they post on of yours is good though because FB uses how often someone posts on your page to decide if you get shown more often in their top stories feed (which is good) so this means when you DO post a link those same people who commented on random stuff are more likely to see it... so it's all good :)

Yeah I find the fans and friends actually like to see pics of works in progress. That is always popular for some reason, even more so than the links I post. :)

I do try to mix it up as well on my fan page, but if I'm not really working on anything at the time (like now), the page can get a bit flooded with links and sometimes I feel spammy, but i figure they are there as a fan of my business and that's part of the business.

That's really interesting. I've never been a complete 'link after link after link' type of person, but I think I'm just paranoid any of my comments will annoy people, silly me.

Work in progress is a good idea - I had started it but not kept it up so I should probably go back to it...!

Re: The paranoia resulting from Facebook pages and Twitter!

I put stuff on my fb fan page all the time. But I don't put links to my items. If I get featured in a treasury I post a link to that. Mostly I tell people things like..yesterdays' post where I was telling everyone that I had just got back from dropping some teas at a shop that is carrying my teas now and how I ended up with an order for some spicy tea. Basically, I think people want to feel involved. They don't want to have a page blasting ads at them all the time. Those are the ones whose posts I hide on fb. The ones that are telling me stuff like "I had the best day to day, blah, blah, etc." those are the ones I keep. I want to know I am buying from someone that I could like, that I am not buying from say, one of the rip-off artists that are stealing other peoples work. But, this is just my opinion.

I think post after post of any kind WILL annoy people. I try not to post more than 1 or 2 times a day. lately though with fb being so glitchy about letting you post picture some times it would not let me post links for like 3 days and when it was working I found myself posting bunch in a row... but my fans knew why I was doing it and we joked about it like "quick fb is letting me post... gotta post a bunch before it goes down again " lol

I really haven't figured out the whole facebook fan page thing. I have a fan page but it really doesn't seem to get that much attention. I know some people swear by facebook, but I just don't get it.

how many fans do you have mountian? It really takes off when you get a lot of fans... but even still you need to keep up with it or else you fall out of people's feeds. I have been so busy working on treasuries lately I have admittedly not given my fans as much attention as I usually do and/or should and it has affected me negatively .... I need to make sure I have time for them too. Don't you wish each day was 36hours long ... then maybe we would get to everything we need to get to lol
