Tags?

For some reason I've been getting really low views from Etsy Search since the beginning of the year, like 2 a day when I'm used to at the least 5.
When I look up my item I usually find it on the fourth or fifth page.
I'm using tags that were some of my top before, and ones that have worked in the past, and I've used the google keyword thing.

I realize a few of my photos are dark, I've been really busy and unable to retake them, but still, I don't think it should have that much affect on where I appear in search or views.

Any help?

Hey girls,

My views have been low as well. I think its hard because the huge surge in December suddenly drops in January. For the last two years low January views have been a trend.

I love your photos and it looked like you are definitely using proper tags...Have you tried going on etsy and finding similar products and borrowing some of their tags? I do that periodically and find tags that I otherwise might not have thought of. I also go on google ad words and type in a tag and then find the most popular words for your search.

From what I've gotten from these threads is that you need to keep your items relevant. Update the titles or content from time to time to keep your product relevant to the tags you're using. The basis of search engine optimization is based on relevancy and content- I'm not saying update it every day- maybe once a week or once every other week :)

What kind of promoting do you do outside of Etsy?

Think of Etsy as a mall. As shop owners, buyers aren't already there. We have to lead people to our items, thus, creating business opportunities with marketing/promoting outside of the Etsy.

And it's also not the number of views, so don't obsess over that number, just as long as you get the right views, which are the ones that lead to sales

I'm glad that I'm not the only one getting low view! Well not quite glad, but it makes me feel a little better that it's an overall etsy trend.
I have tried looking at other more prominent listings to see their tags, and it has helped! Thanks for the tips!

Kelly, that really helps! I never would have thought to continually update titles and content. I usually leave those alone once I'm happy with them!

Lucille, I currently only use facebook, and word of mouth for out of etsy marketing. I'm considering starting with twitter sometime in the New Year as well. What is the best thing you have used for bringing in sales?

(And I know, I don't obsess over number of views, but I find that most.. or actually 90% of my online sales come from search, so I'm trying to stay relevant!)

Oh and thought I'd share, after revising a listing I got a view from Iphone Accessory Browse! : )
