Something to consider before changing shop name

Seems that people who change their shop names have to keep their original user name (which seems to usually be the original shop name).

The shop name changes, but not the user name.

This affects convos! Someone cannot convo you directly from the convo section of the site (by clicking on the envelope icon) by typing in your new shop name. If someone wants to reach you this way, they will have to know your old shop name and type it in.

If someone thinks this may affect their sales. You may want to reconsider changing your shop name.

Otherwise, they can convo you fine from the your profile page, or your shop page by clicking "contact" because they don't have to enter a shop name here.

There also seem to be some other kinks with this system. I recently created a treasury and one of the shops names showed up with her listing as her old shop name in the treasury.

you can see the old shop name by clicking on their shop icon. it will tell you old shop name as well as the date it was changed. that helps, right?

Re: Something to consider before changing shop name

I think that does help, but I don't think buyers will know this. However, most buyers probably send a convo from the shop page and won't have a problem.

Re: Something to consider before changing shop name

So you're saying that the old shop name will not disappear from a shop's profile, even after the 45 day period? I was thinking of taking the plunge, because I'm tired of using an old name that I created years ago just so I could buy something on Etsy. Blech :(

Re: Something to consider before changing shop name

I was considering changing my name from Jujubeader to Jujubeads (which was my intended shop name ... I just got mixed up between the user name & the shop name)!! It is also my business name "outside of Etsy" ... so I've decided to just leave it as is. Jujubeader here on Etsy and Jujubeads outside of Etsy. Not TOO confusing, right?? (RIGHT?)

Re: Something to consider before changing shop name

I changed mine because my user name had nothing to do with my actual business name and was kind of confusing. Based on the amount of convos I receive, i'd say no one is having trouble contacting me. lol

Re: Something to consider before changing shop name

I've been wondering if I should take the plunge and go from Wildethyme to Wildethyme Art, the latter being the actual business name we use IRL.

Re: Something to consider before changing shop name

Most buyers probably do convo shops from their shop page or their personal page. If I'm of a minority that thinks this could confuse some buyers, that is probably a good; but for now this will keep me from changing my shop name.

Re: Something to consider before changing shop name

I changed my shop name from CraftyHomeschoolers to EllieMarieDesigns. Will my url always be CraftyHomeschoolers? I'm wanting to have some business cards made. . . .

Re: Something to consider before changing shop name

Karen, from what I read on Etsy forums there shouldn't be a problem. Whoever will access your old address will be redirected to your new one.

I think the URLs change after some time.
