I heard that the summer months June-August are really slow. Why is this? I'm kinda disappointed a little bit because the summer time is the only time I can work full time because I'm in school 8 hours a day 5 days a week the rest of the year. Do you guys have any ideas on how I can get through these summer months with my store?
I'm new so this is my first summer, but summer is generally the time when people leave the computers and go outside into the sunshine and go on vacation. Doesn't leave much time for surfing etsy or shopping. Also because there are no major holidays for gift giving - it means less sales.
But it doesn't necessarily mean it's slow - you just need to make sure what you are selling is relevant to the season! For example if you sell scarves - you aren't going to sell any when its hot. And likewise if you sell swimsuits - you probably aren't going to sell any when its cold. Just make sure your shop stock is relevant to the season, and advertise/tag as such!
I definitely feel like I'm doing twice the work for half the sales the last few weeks...but the up side is that we get to work on building up inventory / improving listings and pictures etc...so when it starts picking up again we're READY
well if these months are slow for you, use the time to get stocked up for the holidays/busy months. if you are busy packing orders you won´t have any time and then it will be good if you are prepared
Thanks guys. I've been working my butt off like crazy to add stock and new photos. Look for new items in my store. Plus when September comes look for a BIG surprise.
Hi there, it will be my first summer too, and i'm quite afraid of working for just a few sales.. i'll use this time to make some stocks, to be superready for September and the new school year, i hope it will be fruitfull!
I wish all you guys the best of luck. I wish I would've known a lot more before opening up my store. I only started out with 12 items for the longest time.
Olivia, the summer months are slow for some shops but busy for others. It all depends on what you are selling.
Right now Bridal is hot, as is anything to do with the outdoors such as gardening and bbqing.
I've been running this business for many years now and I use the summer time to get my wholesale orders in place and to take a break from the shop. Each year it has picked up again for me in August and then the madhouse that is winter begins.
I almost like the slow months because I can stock up on items. Buy trending fabric, research competition, update listing, titles, tags and photos. Plus I have more time to hangout with friends and go to the movies.
I have learned to use the slow Summer to design new items, get ready for the holidays, and to just relax and enjoy family time as well, with school out, etc..
That's what I'm planning on doing too. Once I fill this order. This is my "second" order this month which really surprises me. I'm also excited because I love the item that I sold and it was going to expire tomorrow and now I don't have to renew it.
My shop was SUPER busy last summer, this year not so much. It could be that a lot of my photography is beachy, tropical, and the like so people are shopping for summer. Don't worry, it will pick up -- just stay positive.
I've noticed my views & faves dip during the summer. I really need to use this time to do editing and take photos to increase my inventory. But...it's dang hot outside and going out to do photoshoots, doesn't sound like much fun right now. :P
