Slow January
So far sales for January have been low, well even lower than low with not having one sale as of writing this.
I know sales in January are always low. I'm just hoping it picks up for now on.
How are your January sales going, are you sales up or down from last year?

I am actually pretty slow as well, but I always try to use my time wisely. With Valentines Day right around the corner, I have already stocked up on supplies and am premaking as much items as I can and preparing for some craft fairs which will help local business in person :) Even if I don't make a sale, that is still getting my name out there when things are slow.
Use this time to build up inventory, edit photos, edit listings and policies to make sure everything is up to date. Taking the time to post on social medias about what your up to or new designs is always great!

As it's my first month on etsy, and I have read too many stories about their first sell. So for me it's medium for because I got good views and favorites on my products.

My first month open too. Being doing my best to get involved. Plenty of reading discussion threads in the hope of learning. I'm delighted to have sold 2 items. But I have nothing to compare it with.
Monitoring my stats regularly. Not sure whats good or not, but I would have been hoping to attract more traffic.
A WORK IN PROGRESS!

I just opened recently so I've no comparison but with all of the polar plunges we've had this season thus far you'd think that people would be all over your stuff :)

It's so slow for me. Views are normal but hardly any buyers. Very frustrating!

Good views, favorites and sales as compared to last January and the January before. I am spending time on SEO, new photos, and making new designs I had sketched last fall. Wish all of you the best.

I've been making the transition from actively farming to just doing fiber and yarn. It's been slow and difficult deciding what new logos, banners, etc I want\ or even if I should keep the shop open. Since I had to be away from home for the last 3 months of the year helping my daughter and basically had to shut the shop down, I decided to spend this month regrouping and redo-ing with the goal of a fresh new look and a fresh new spirit. January is slow anyway and it was a good exercise for me to take a breath and not worry that I was missing a sale. For me to have a little faith that it will all be good in the end.
If it gives you any comfort - I had a retail store (in Australia ) and after the insanity of the holidays, sales are so miniscule in January that you sweat making your rent (no matter how low it is!).
You just keep doing what you're doing...
Happy New Year everybody

Re: Slow January
I don't agree that sales in January are 'always slow', as the OP states.
My sales in January are always a little above my monthly average (which is 10 sold items per month over the last few years).
And this is my 9th year on Etsy, it has been like this every single year.
Not everyone is broke in January. Also, people are spending the money they got for Christmas and other Holidays.
I think one of the reasons that sales are slow for many sellers is that they put a lot of effort into making sales before the Holidays and now they have less listings (because of the Holidays sales) and put in less effort.
Now is the perfect time to work on restocking your shop and trying out new marketing efforts.
Look around in shopping malls and b&m shops: people do NOT stop spending money in January.

Re: Slow January
So far it has been slow, but my sales percentage is the same as last January so far. I have been working hard on redoing photos, adding new designs and making sure my shop is still full. So I am hoping things pick up soon! It's nice to see hard work come to fruition!

Re: Slow January
This is my second January since opening.
22 sales so far, so I guess it's pretty good.
Hopefully sales will pick up for everyone during Valentines period. (:

Re: Slow January
It's my first January where I'm actively working on my shop, i.e. promoting and creating and listing new items and so far I've had 4sales this month. With an average of 7orders per month, I'm happy!
I agree with BeaG: Now is the perfect time to work on restocking your shop and trying out new marketing efforts.
Good luck and happy sales everyone!

Re: Slow January
This month has been much slower than I expected. In the past, January sales had been Ok. I've started to work on some new items for spring. I hope that will help. Happy sales everyone.

Since the bulk of your items are for cold weather, it totally makes sense that your sales would slow. By now people have given their gifts and chosen their own winter gear, you know?
My Jan is slow because I'm not renewing my Christmas items. I expect that as Spring rolls around, people will start shopping for baby quilts again.
That hedgehog, though, is a cutie.

Re: Slow January
I'm doing better than I did last January, but I wish it were better. Building up inventory for Valentine's Day and focusing on refreshing my listings keeps me busy.
