Shipping supplies

So far I've been able to use recycled shipping supplies. I'm lucky to live above a gift shop, and they save boxes and packing peanuts for me (note to self: bake brownies for the gift shop staff).

Do you mostly use recycled supplies or do you buy them? I'd love a good source for inexpensive boxes if you know of one.

Re: Shipping supplies

I too recycle shipping boxes (even shipping peanuts) as long as it is in good shape with no store label or name on it. The admin at my FT job saves them for me. Its very helpful and saves money on shipping supplies. I see nothing wrong with recycling.

Re: Shipping supplies

I like the idea of recycled shipping supplies as long as they are clean and don't have any unpleasant "storage" smell.

Uline works like charm for me. Reasonable prices and awesome customer service.

Re: Shipping supplies

I actually use mostly the USPS priority mail options. For smaller 1st class items I just use a manila envelope! All of my peanuts and packing material I usually get at a supply company here in phoenix AZ as they are very affordable.

Re: Shipping supplies

I recycle all my boxes and packing material. I buy my padded envelopes new because they are usually not in reusable condition. I'm all for recycling and reusing!

Re: Shipping supplies

If you are shipping USPS just go to there web site and you get all there boxes for free. You have your choice of flat rate boxes or priority mail. I have found when you ship priority mail is really a good deal the shipping confirmation is included, and you get a free shipping box. And for me it has been better than fed ex. Fed ex ground has a bunch of back fees when you have a account they bill you for later. And if you want a pick up they charge you. USPS will pick up at your location for free. I keep all packaging in good condition from items I buy and reuse.

Re: Shipping supplies

I recycle when I have appropriate sized boxes, and def recycle all the bubble wrap etc. But I also take advantage of the USPS priority boxes, as well as boxes and fresh bubble wrap in a huge roll - like half as tall as me huge- from BoxCity.

Re: Shipping supplies

I like to use & receive recycled boxes whenever possible but our supplies shop goes through so many bubble mailers there's no way to get enough.

We get supplies from my husband's job, local stores & you can request them on your local Freecycle group too ( http://www.freecycle.org ).

Re: Shipping supplies

USPS for flat rate and priority. You can have them shipped directly to your business or/home business for free! I buy my small padded envelopes at Ollie's and Big Lots. Cheap, cheap, cheap. I recycle cardboard boxes (clean ones) for an extra piece of protection when I ship cards.

Re: Shipping supplies

Even though I use USPS Click-N-Ship, I had no idea I could get boxes for free! I ordered a bundle of boxes that will be just right for most everything I sell. Thank you all for your helpful advice.

Re: Shipping supplies

I get USPS boxes whenever I can but for large boxes or specialty sizes, I order from Uline.com
If you are fortunate enough to live near one of the warehouses like I am, it is well worth it! My last order, I called (was answered on the 2nd ring - no being put on hold forever!), I ordered what I needed quickly, drove to the warehouse about 30 minutes away and within an hour of ordering, the boxes had been loaded in my car and I was on my way back home.
VERY good customer service and fast shipping if you do have it delivered - usually next day.

Re: Shipping supplies

I used to, but making jewelry and thus being in the "gift" business I feel that customers want a certain look to their packages when they arrive, so I no longer recycle my packaging.
