Shipping from U.S. to Australia?? Best way?

Hi all....wondering if anyone has had experience shipping from US to Australia. I've been getting shipping estimates to ship a scarf (about a pound) and I think they all seem high wtih u.s.p.s. being lowest so far at 15. (UPS was outlandish). USPS still seems too high for weight of what I am shipping? has anyone had any experience shipping from U.S. ? I'd really prefer not to lose money on shipping. Thanks for feedback.

Re: Shipping from U.S. to Australia?? Best way?

I have shipped to Australia as I have a friend there. I sell jewelry which is relatively low US shipping already though so this may not be the best judge for you.. Anyway, when I shipped to AU I did so from the post office and didn't try to figure it online myself. Most times its right around $2.00 to ship USPS First Class Mail within the US for 1 item for me and AU was only like .50 cents more. The problem is I believe I couldn't do delivery confirmation as the only way to have "tracking" on an item going there was a very expensive option they were telling me it was going to be like $29 or something wild. Hope this helps.

thank you very much.....from what I can figure, lowest was actually 10ish, but that still seems high considering the minimal weight of the product. I know I had issues last time I shipped to ireland, as they'd taken the proverbial 'slow boat' option out of the mix, dramatically increasing the cost of postage. Would have been better to fly there and hand deliver.

lol.. yeah, this thing took like 3 weeks to get to her when I sent it because they had like 2 or 3 holidays over the course of the 2 weeks expected delivery time, it was ridiculous!

Anyone shipped to South Africa??? My AU friend is ordering something to send to family in SA now.. this should be fun!

We have shipped hundreds of packages to Australia over the years. USPS International First Class is your least expensive option. However, there is no tracking and insurance is not available from the post office.

We insure all our international shipments using Shipsaver. Insurance to Australia is $1.25 for the first $100.00.

You can find the Etsy Shipsaver app on your account page, on the left hand side under Resources. Click on apps and then scroll down to find Shipsaver.

Two to three weeks delivery time is not unusual for packages shipped to Australia from the US.

thanks SO much! I was able to fit the scarf in an envelope with some cardboard to protect it. Just weighed it and it's about .50 a lb. Will head down shortly to p.o. but really appreciate everyone's input!! Thanks a bunch.
