Shipping from Canada??

Who do you use to ship to both Canada and the States (Canada post, UPS, Fed ex?)

What are the normal cost for shipping to both Canada and the States (ie fits through that little slot, vs it doesn't)

Do you ask for tracking? if so, how much extra does that cost.

How long do you tell customers it should take to get item from Canada to the states?

I'm so confused about this, and was always loosing money on shipping, hence why I changed my shop to "Printable", but if I can figure out the best way, maybe I'll try shipping again.

Thanks in advance for any feedback!

Re: Shipping from Canada??

You might want to look here:http://www.canadapost.ca/cpotools/apps/far/personal/findARate?execution=e1s1

Find a rate will be helpful as you can put the dimensions of the box or bubble mailer and estimate the weight (or you can purchase a scale and get a true weight).

Cole's notes: As size and weight play a major role in shipping costs and can vary a great deal. Letter mail is cheaper then parcel by a lot, so if you can get your items to fit though the slot it is better than shipping parcel ($2.00 compared to $8.00 or <. Tracking cost at least 8.00 to ship from Canada to the US.

The find a rate will be helpful :)

Re: Shipping from Canada??

thanks!

I guess the trick is to measure and weigh at home to get the best estimate.

I think my guesstimates before weren't all so accurate.

Re: Shipping from Canada??

Hi there,
I ship from Canada and it is expensive :(

I spent a while trying out different options but now I use CP Light Packet. It is regular letter mail for oversized things. It fits through the slot and is a little under 3$ to the states.

I used to use Small Packet (the next size up)...but to send by air, it was $7+ I would always lose money on the shipping (not to mention the packaging labour and materials could not be covered)

Once, I mailed something from the States because we were visiting relatives and it was $1 something to mail within the US. I couldn't believe it!! The kicker with CP Small Packet is that it is actually MORE expensive to mail within Canada than to ship to the US!!

Re: Shipping from Canada??

Make sure you get a kitchen scale ($20 from Canadian Tire or similar places) so you can get an accurate weight for your items. I ship everything in bubble mailers, or a sturdy envelope with the sides taped up. I use light packet for shipping to the US for small inexpensive items, and Small packet for more expensive items (because it comes with insurance).

Best of luck! Once you do a few, I'm sure you'll get the hang of it :)
