Sending out Newsletters

I have been contemplating starting a newsletter. Does anyone have a favorite way of doing this....like Constant Contact??? or some other service that works well. I don't have an email list to start from and not sure how to compile one....any suggestions?? And do you feel it is a successful way to communicate with your customers....in otherwords is it a worthwhile practice???

I tried to start with mail chimp, it was quite easy to set up, but I need to do some computer updates before I can actually use the site....

You can start with Mail Chimp, constant contact or other bulk email provider.
Just keep in mind that when you reach a certain number of recipients, you will have to begin to pay for the subscription.
So far, this has not appeared to have netted anything $$$ wise.
It will be interesting if people could share who ARE experiencing a worthwhile net from this task.
I would like to know precisely what they believe they are doing that may contribute to that outcome.

Mine is not so much a regular Newsletter as it is a Welcome to VIP status for people who have bought an item.
I send them a Coupon Code as Loyal Customers.
And I encourage them to look at some new items they might like.
No one appears to have used the code.
