I would like to know why would anybody use themselves as a model to showcase earrings, sandals and shoes, or even swimming wear???? I happened to be browsing some items and stumbled across this one:

http://www.etsy.com/listing/69387327/crochet-cotton-brazilian-bikini-in-5?ref=sr_gallery_3&ga_search_query=crochet+bikini&ga_page=12&ga_search_type=handmade&ga_facet=handmade

So, my advise to every seller is: Please DO NOT WEAR your items.
There is an item called mannequin! I hope you all agree with me, but this is pretty grosse!

Knotiedesigns, you can't copy others items. Or use their pictures.

Exactly! I purchased the pattern from that website that crochetgal kindly shared with everybody here. As a matter of fact, all the items in my shop I make out of patterns from this online store.

Because I do not like to wear the items that I make, because I do not keep them, I sell them, I used the original pictures that showcase the item very well.

It is a violation of copyright law to use someone else's photos without their permission. I would be very careful if I were you. Copyright law can get pretty complicated and you wouldn't want to get sued over a photo. You are better off taking your own photos.

Anyway.... I have stated several times that it is not my intention to put anybody down. I already contacted Etsy to close this thread, and hopefully they will do so.

@Jessica: I have made several of these items. That is why I chose them for etsy. Unfortunately I did not sell them, I gave them away as gifts, therefore I don't have any to take pictures of. I am working on making them to eventually replace the picture for a picture of the actual item made by me.

Re: Self Modeling our own Creations is a NO! NO!

I am going to throw my 2 cents in here:
the majority of clothing such as in this listing is made to order so you would not be buying that exact same item, i personally do not see a problem with the photo at all, actually i would prefer it to a mannequin anyday.
NOT everyone is here to make a living some do it as a hobby and if it were a hobby why would someone pay for photos to be professionally done.

I agree with Crochetgal - you have stolen copyrighted images to represent your work?
I don't understand this as the stolen image is not showing the actual item that you have made.
Take the images down and re take them, so you are photographing the actual item not one that has been made by someone else.

Re: Self Modeling our own Creations is a NO! NO!

Hi guys,

I am going to wrap this up now. Please see our DOs & DON'Ts here:
http://www.etsy.com/dosdonts.php#thecommunity
http://www.etsy.com/policy/dosdonts#community_teams

This is a good topic! You are welcome to start a new discussion about using live models, but please do so without negatively referring to other members, shops, or items (directly, or with identifiable hints).

To read more about copyright and how this affects you as an independent business owner / artist, please check out the Legal Info for Artists series on our blog:

I hope this information helps!
Thanks!
