Self Modeling our own Creations is a NO! NO!

I would like to know why would anybody use themselves as a model to showcase earrings, sandals and shoes, or even swimming wear???? I happened to be browsing some items and stumbled across this one:

http://www.etsy.com/listing/69387327/crochet-cotton-brazilian-bikini-in-5?ref=sr_gallery_3&ga_search...

So, my advise to every seller is: Please DO NOT WEAR your items.
There is an item called mannequin! I hope you all agree with me, but this is pretty grosse!

Re: Self Modeling our own Creations is a NO! NO!

Yikes!

I can understand what you're saying but not everyone wants to pay for a model and "some" don't need to.

I do think that sellers may want to consider a bit of professionalism when it comes to how they want their shop represented and I feel that a lot shops out there do.

;)

This is calling out in the forums, which is not allowed! Please don't put other shops down when they're are trying their best... This thread will be shut down...

against ETSY rules...

Hi aggieray, I am not trying to put anybody down. And to be a little fair to myself, I just joined Etsy yesterday. I apologize if I have offended you.

But really, I definitely cannot afford a model, but I try my best to portray my shop as professional, and mostly as a place where people would feel comfortable buying.

And with all due respect, I don't know if you saw the rest of the pictures. I would have at least wiped my feet.

Etsy Success Team, if you want to close this thread, I understand. It is not my intention to put anybody down. I just felt I had to say something, because I'm here to enjoy my selling and shopping and have a PLEASANT experience. Thanks.

Re: Self Modeling our own Creations is a NO! NO!

It's not up to me to close a thread. I am just saying that the ETSY Rules in the forums states that you are not to call out, buyers, sellers, shops, etc. If you want to talk about this topic, do not put a link to someone's shop... Talk about it with the link, without mentioning the seller's name... Think about it in reverse, how would you feel if someone put a picture from your shop and picked it apart...

Re: Self Modeling our own Creations is a NO! NO!

I know Aggie, but when I posted the link I did not know that it was going to show the picture, just the link. Anyway, like I said I'm not trying to offend anybody, that was not my intention.

Re: Self Modeling our own Creations is a NO! NO!

Hi Loosewire, I didn't do it intentionally. I didn't know that the link was going to post a picture and the name of the shop. I do feel bad about that.

Oop. My apologies. I neglected to notice this was a Team thread. Sorry 'bout that.
It's not my place to moderate Team threads. *steps out gingerly*

Oh...goodness!

As a potential buyer, I can say I would never, ever buy a bathing suit that had been worn by a live model - a matter of hygiene. In my mind, it is now used.

A shame, because the bikini itself is cute and looks like it's well-made.

I think it’s inappropriate to put someone down like this. Did you even look that the description says NEW MADE TO ORDER? As far as models go, it’s up to the seller to decide how to present their items.

Exactly!!! That is my point!
Nobody is critizing the quality of her work or trying to put her down... It's just a matter of proffesionalism.

I completely agree with WineCountryLife. Also, KnotieDesigns, since you're new here you may benefit from learning the Etsy Terms of Use.

Re: Self Modeling our own Creations is a NO! NO!

My daughter came in while I was looking at the bathing suits. I almost fell out of my chair laughing at her face when she saw what I was looking at. I think this is a good thread for the purpose of "what not to do"...

Thanks Heather, I only wish that we were able to post pictures without having to include the information of the seller. My bad. =(

Re: Self Modeling our own Creations is a NO! NO!

OP,
At least the shop in question didn't outright COPY someone else's work!
Your Santa Fe shawl
http://www.etsy.com/listing/72114045/santa-fe-shawl
including the photos and the description, is a direct COPY of the one listed in the Interweave Magazine!

Re: Self Modeling our own Creations is a NO! NO!

The listing in the OP states very clearly that the item is made to order, so the customer would not be sent the same garment that the model is wearing. I think she looks great, and, knowing my item would be made to order, it wouldn't put me off buying from her at all, if I were into crochet bikinis, which I'm not. :)
