Scam?

Somehow, whenever anyone writes, "Hello, this is _____ from _______," it sounds like suspicious. I don't plan to call this person, and just answered that he can buy it and pay with Paypal, but I want to warn others if you all think this is some sort of scam. Here's the convo I received:

Hi this is ______ from Fargo ND. Ive been looking for a _______ like this one but its tough to find em. Whats your prefered way to get paid? If you still have it I would like to buy it.

You can email or call me to voice verify. 701XXXXX.

yeah, they write "if you still have it" when you obviously have it, its in your shop.
I stopped getting these once I had over a number of sales.

if they wanted to buy it, all they needed to do is to click on the buy button, goodness...

Yeah it looks fishy... They already know they can use PayPal or whatever you've got set up in your shop...

Like you said, he/she can buy it and pay through PayPal. Weird that any other contact would even be made.

I had someone contact me before Christmas asking if the item listed
was for sale! (Duh...)
Then a second email asking how to purchase it.
Then a third email saying they didn't want to use PayPal or a credit card but
would send a check. It never arrived. I went back to see what the date was that they said the check was being mailed and they no longer had an account with Etsy. Where do people find the time to do this stuff?

I posted some ads on craigslist - just put a link to my shop and included 4 photos of items in there. Today someone emailed me and wrote, "if you still have this item, call me."

Not sure what item they were referring to, as it wasn't a singular listing but a link to my site. And they gave me a bogus number to some business.

I agree - when someone says, "if you have this" when clearly you do, it's a scam.

Usually these scammers are not Americans. You can tell by the poor grammar and spelling. One time I did respond to someone and asked what country he was from. He told me he was from Italy. I told him that I speak Italian (I don't) and let us continue our conversation in Italian. He never responded to my email.
