Just a few thoughts after I talked to some of my fellow etsyans...

Making a sale is the result of a few things:
- your effort making it
- your effort presenting it
- your effort marketing it

Making
Do the best to create a good quality item. Everything finds their owner, but you don't want them coming back to you complaining of the quality.

Presenting
A good picture tells a 1000 words :)
Good lighting, background that doesn't steal the attention from your item, but puts the focus on it definitely helps.


Marketing

Advertise your etsy shop on your business cards, on your website, blog, facebook page and where ever you go online and offline.
Use the etsy tools, and help others to help yourself.

Circles:
Put people into your circles and get notified of their new listings, new favs, new treasuries.

Treasuries:
Make friends by featuring their items in your treasuries. Most people will return the favor :)
By making a treasury, the people whos circles you are in will get notified - YAYY! they will see your name! Just how you like to visit other people's shop, they will visit yours!
Post your treasury in your teams. YaYY! Your name appears in the discussions!
Visit the treasuries others have made, and make a comment - Yayy! a bunch of new people will see you!
When you get featured in a treasury, take a minute to view, comment, thank to be included, and favor the treasury, so others in your circle and their circles get to see it too! Then post it to your teams, so even more can see it.

Before you know it, your circles will grow, more people gets to see your products, and your sale will grow!

It seems like I have been reading so much about how important treasuries are and I ignored them for so long! But I have noticed a huge increase in traffic since joining a few treasury making teams. Great advice, Susan. Thank you!

How the heck does a person 'make a treasury'?????

DiReichertsArt: I'm glad you asked, you're probably not the only one who doesn't know. :)

It is very simple!

Go to the etsy home page, and click the 'Treasury' link on the left side, then click the 'Create a List" link on the right side under "Curator Tools'.
You can also find the "Create a List' link if you visit any treasuries.

It will take you to this page:
http://www.etsy.com/treasury/new

You put in a title, description, tags are optional, but GREAT tools to promote your treasury, then start putting in your items.

Lets say, you want to create a treasury with Fall colors.
You can put in the search: 'fall colors' hit search, and you'll get thousands of items coming up you can browse through and select the ones that you like and fit your title.

Another way of selecting items for your treasury is visiting your teams and check their newly listed items. :)

This is all very good advice - the basic tasks that we need to do on a regular basis to keep our shop active.

Treasuries - it also helps to have a lot of items marked as favorites - look at those first and that might help inspire a treasury theme.
