Repeat Work Confusion

TITLE SHOULD SAY 'REPEAT WORD' CONFUSION

I'm constantly working on my shop as only had 7 sales since being on Etsy, so have been continously tweaking my Descriptions, Tags & Titles and have recently been working on my Photo's using a real Rose Prop to see if get more interest to my shop

My question is, is it right to repeat the same words within your Titles, Descriptions and Tags or not?

I used to constantly mention Earrings as one example in different formats (especially in my descriptions like Flower Earrings, Rose Earrings, Wedding Earrings which would be dashed around everywhere) but I have since changed this as was advised by some that you don't need to repeat the same words. So since then I have changed my shop and don't mention as much but then got some advise saying if you don't repeat you have less chance of being found, I have looked at shops of everyone that has given me advise and they are all getting lots of sales, I am flumaxed, lol.

Please could you confirm what has worked for you? I am not sure how Etsy works with search engines and desperate now to get it right.

I have lots of my creations just sitting there that I would love to sell at some point, lol

Thanks

Re: Repeat Work Confusion

You do want to repeat the words you use in your title, description, and tags. However, if you have the word "earrings" in your title (for example) you don't need to have it more than once. This is the way I understand it to be. If your title has the words "Clay Flower Earrings", put the same word combination in your description. For your tags you have to break it up to say "clay flower" and "flower earrings". This is how I repeat in my listings.

Re: Repeat Work Confusion

I found a lot of conflicting information when I first started (and still work and work on tags on titles). I'm sure you get lots of support and help on
here.
If I'm allowed to mention another team, you might also find this one useful as it's dedicated to tags, SEO, etc. Views definitely impoved for me when I followed their advice. http://www.etsy.com/teams/11352/relevancy-and-seo-for-all-etsy-shops

Re: Repeat Work Confusion

Repeat the "key words" in your titles in everything, descriptions, tags, anouncements, policies, about page, find a way to sneak them into everything if you can.
Google goes by title and the first line of your description, so put your title in again first then write your description, then the shop title at the bottom (not name, but title underneath). Google works on repitition. I know this is true thats why my shop comes up first when I search it's name on google.
Etsy goes by tags and titles toegther, and keep this to yourself but Etsy likes lots of colours in tags and material, decriptions :o)

Now i'm not saying it's a magic wand, and i cant guarantee it, but i did go from 90 to sometimes 500 views a day doing that

Good luck sweety :o)

Re: Repeat Work Confusion

Sorry to post again, but I just wanted to say that I have 8 vintage necklaces in the shop at the moment, one of those were on the first page, one on the third and the other 5 were on the next 5 pages, and out of nearly 200,000 that's not bad :o)

I'm not saying it will definitely get you views, but it gets you higher up the search which gives you the chance of more views, and that's got to be good :o)

Re: Repeat Work Confusion

It is totally fine to repeat your keywords many times in your listings (not just for the sake of repetition, of course).
The repetition Google doesn't like is in different listings. If Google finds lots of pages with the same keywords, chances are lower that those will show up high in search results.
I'm talking about pages all over the internet. Not in the same Etsy shop. Of course variation in your listings gives you more chances of being found.

Re: Repeat Work Confusion

This is purely just on my own experience, others may have a completely different approach. I will say though that different searches use a different set of specifications so it varies a lot lol:o)

Re: Repeat Work Confusion

Thanks both for your advice :-) I really want to get more views so appreciate you telling me what you have found.

I have tried to mention the same words in my Title to what is in the description. This listing is an example of this, would you say this is suitable or does it still need more work?

Thanks again :-)

Re: Repeat Work Confusion

I don't think I explained properly, sorry.

You need to copy and paste the title of the item, and put it at the top of the description, then a few spaces and write the description. However what you have done will help enormously as it's repeating the keywords again :o) brill! Makes sure your keywords are in your tags too, repeat, repeat, repeat lol, it's boring, but it works.

Don't forget to put your shop title in all the "about + Editing" sections in your shop, you can find too :o) just put it everywhere haha

Re: Repeat Work Confusion

I forgot to say too, to check out the trending words on the treasuries home page on the right. They are what people are currently looking for, and are good temporary keywords, although they will need changing quite often when the ocassion has passed etc.

Re: Repeat Work Confusion

Thanks Sam :-) I will take your advice and give it a go after I have put my little one to bed, I really appreciate this.

I didn't know you were meant to copy and paste the title in the description, but if it works then worth a go :-)

Re: Repeat Work Confusion

I have noticed that some of these suggestions are not mentioned on Forums etc, it just goes to show that sometimes its best to talk to other shops and see what works for them :-)

Re: Repeat Work Confusion

Everything I've learnt is from reading SEO tips from here, the net, and personal experience. I spent 9 months trying everything to see what worked and nothing did, but that :o) Really awful 9 months too, being a newbie is really very hard.

Re: Repeat Work Confusion

I just remembered a really good one and it's super easy as you're doing it right now :o) Participate in as many discussions in large teams as you can, time allowing of course. I did this one day and got an extra 600 views lol.

Re: Repeat Work Confusion

I agree Sam that it is really difficult, has been for me now for nearly a year. Started my shop in April 2012 and only just started getting sales this Jan, but then it all stopped :-/

Really hope that this helps me get at least more potential customers and hopefully more sales :-)

Thanks again x
