Raw Edge?

https://www.etsy.com/listing/101436695/soft-rosette-baby-headband-made-to-order

This headband came about the night before I went in to be induced with baby #2. I just wanted a soft, comfy headband for my new little girl, without being too over the top. So I whipped this up and threw it in my hospital bag. But because I did that I didn't finish the edges of the actual headband, knowing that knit won't fray. So now my question is, is it weird to sell a headband with a raw edge? It's an interlock knit, so when it stretches it does seperate a bit, but it doesn't fray. But I like that little bit imperfect look. In the listing it does say that it is a raw edge, I just wonder if it is what people would expect, you know? What would you thing receiving an item with a raw edge like that?

Re: Raw Edge?

I've also sold 5 in the last 3 days, which is a ton of sales for me. What do you think about the price?

Re: Raw Edge?

The price is fine, gorgeous headband :)
I like the edges unfinished, knits do fray, not much but slightly over time but that's the style of it, finished edges would give it a whole different look.
The buyer would expect for the edges not to be finished because the listing clearly says it and same with the pic.
Sooo cute !!!

Re: Raw Edge?

Thank you! It is one of those that I never intended to sell, but it has turned out to be a big hit.

Thanks for your input, it's one of those things that I am probably WAY over thinking. :)

Re: Raw Edge?

Hi Kylie,

I think the headband is precious! Is that your baby girl? If so, I would like to order two just like her!

Because I sew also, the raw edge goes against my grain ( sorry for the pun) but in the case of this headband, it seems to be perfect!
( I make them and have not started listing any on Etsy, wasn't sure if I wanted to jump into the baby world).

I think your price for now is great...once you sell 10 or more, you might want to consider raising it!

Re: Raw Edge?

When I first read your post I didn't think I'd like the raw edge. But when I clicked on the picture, it turns out that I really like it. I think it gives it a very pretty, sweet, organic, natural kind of feel. I love that it's understated. It doesn't have that pageant baby kind of look that a lot of over the top ornate headbands have. I really love it. Lots of luck to you!!!!

Edited to say that it also looks really comfortable and soft. And your baby is PRECIOUS!!!! Should get LOTS of clicks.

Re: Raw Edge?

One little suggestion. The chocolate brown in my favorite color of your color choices. But, I can picture a lot of customers wanting a soft light pink. You might want to consider adding a pink as an option.

Re: Raw Edge?

I have a personal preference against raw edges, but that is just my opinion! I know there are a lot of people who prefer unfinished, as well.

Perhaps offer a version with a finished edge and provide a link to that. If I saw this listing, I'd follow the link to the finished edge version and purchase in a heartbeat!

Re: Raw Edge?

I also agree about the pink. I'd check into the trends in baby clothing and match my pastels to those. I would want my baby's headbands to match her outfit.

Re: Raw Edge?

I agree with the adding more 'baby' colors but the brown is definitely my fave! (:

Re: Raw Edge?

You know what they say about choices...give too many and you may close the door on what is working! I think I offer too many choices and I have started tweaking some listings.

I might offer a finished edge on a "dressier headband" and give this soft, natural one as well. LOVE IT!

Re: Raw Edge?

Great ideas! Thank you so much! (and yes, that is my little cutie!)

I hadn't considered doing a finished edge listing. Maybe I'll look into that. I normally would not ever consider a raw edge, I think that's why I'm worrying about it. :)

And I'm definitely going to add a more baby pink, I just need to order some in because our local store didn't have any.?
