On the Etsy homepage, there is a section that shows recently listed items. When you edit an already existing listing, does it show back up under recently listed??

Not that I can see, date of listing (an expiring) stays the same, regardless of editing.

The only way your items shows up as recently listed is if you actually recently listed (or renewed) it.
