Question about quantity available.

Hi,

I'm quite new to Etsy and had just posted my first item for sale. my question is about quantity for sale. Browsing everyone's shop, I realized most people have only one quantity for sale per item. and I'm just about the only one who posted so many quantity for sale. Why is that? Is it to avoid cost per quantity? (which I did not know about until I submitted). Is everyone trying to get reposted after an item sells? Have I made an expensive mistake on my first listing? Thank you.

Re: Question about quantity available.

I'm also curious why some sellers only put one when they have more available. I've had to contact sellers to revise their listing so I could purchase more than one. It meant I had to delay placing my order until they adjusted the listing.

Re: Question about quantity available.

I think that people just copy and relist once an item has been sold. Many shops believe that renewing and relisting helps tremendously. I know that new items show up in a newly listed area. It is the same principle, but you don't have to pay the multiple listing fee upfront and you have your item in the newer searches.

Re: Question about quantity available.

Wow...umm

Well for one...most of us our hand made stuff ...we dont have 64 of the exact same item ever even if it's a remakeable Item.

Made to order items...it's really not needed to have so many. Unless your expecting some one to come along and purchase 45 of those...without contacting you for whole sale prices.

plus you Can renew sold listing and that helps with views.

Re: Question about quantity available.

Listings are only good for so many months (sorry, can't remember off the top of my head... 4 or 6??) so unless you sell 64 in the next couple of months then you'll be out a bit of money. Luckily you only paid 20c/ listing.

I keep all of my listings but 1 at 1 quantity so that when I sell it I can re-list it right away. I believe that re-listing my big sellers a couple times a week keeps me up there for relevancy (some might disagree with me). The one item I do keep at 2 quantity is because most people want to buy that many at a time. (I sell them in sets of 10 & most people want 20 at a time so that's why they tend to buy 2 at a time).

Re: Question about quantity available.

Like Stephanie said, it costs money for each item you list whether it's a new listing or just by quantity. I also think that renewing sold items helps with relevancy. It makes sense to have multiple quantities for some items that people will generally buy a few of like beads or supplies. Oliver, I don't think that many people buy multiple salt and pepper shaker sets, so it probably would have been better to put the quantity at 1 and renew the listing every time you sell one.

Re: Question about quantity available.

I keep my quantities at 1 because I renew my items occasionally and it would start to get quite expensive if I had multiples.

Re: Question about quantity available.

Ariella, thanks. Yea, you're right. that was a mistake on my part. My products are made with a ceramic mold and I used the mold to make 65 units per run because it would make sense to run the process for only a few sets. I thought it would make sense to put up the quantity I have but I did not know how Etsy really works. Thanks for the explanation :)

Re: Question about quantity available.

Yeah, listing one item costs $0.20 each. So if you have 15 bars of soap, it costs $3.00 to list/renew the item every time.
