Question about modifying lisitings

Happy Thursday Everyone!

Does anyone know if you can modify a currently active lisiting to a different item?
And if you can what happens if that lisiting has been favorited?

Thanks for your assistance!

Re: Question about modifying lisitings

Hi

You can change all the photos, description etc. to something else.

I'm pretty sure the favorites will point to the modified listing, but I've never done it.

Re: Question about modifying lisitings

Sorry Felie, It is functionally possible to do this, however per Etsy rules, you may not edit a listing's information to change it to an entirely different item; this is considered fee avoidance.

Re: Question about modifying lisitings

What Heather said. Changing a listing to a different item is a no-no on Etsy.

Re: Question about modifying lisitings

Thanks for the info.. I'm stuck in a dilemma I have a listing that I no longer want to sell but hate to let that listing fee I just paid go to waste.

Re: Question about modifying lisitings

I might be a no-no on Etsy, but I see others do it all the time. I favourite one item and a few weeks or months later it is totally different item I don't even like or cusom listing for some buyer.

Re: Question about modifying lisitings

I hate it when people do this. I favorite something because i like it, I don't want some other random item showing up in my favorites! Is there a reason you don't want to sell it anymore? You said people had favorited it, so it seems like people like it. Personally I would just leave it up till it sells for the final time or expires.

Re: Question about modifying lisitings

I would recommend you not doing this.

If you no longer wish to sell the item, just deactivate it. 20 cents its not worth the risk of getting reported to Etsy for switching out items.

Re: Question about modifying lisitings

Rachel-I just decided I didn't want to make a piece in the listing because I wasn't happy with the outcome, It looked really great but the perfectionist in me wasn't thrilled with it. And personally I don't like giving things to friends and family as gifts if it'm not in love with it myself with it so I didn't feel confident in selling it.

As of right now it's deactivated, who knows I may change my mind in the next few weeks and post it back up, so we will see! In the end it's just .20 cents!

Re: Question about modifying lisitings

I've noticed the switcharoo thing has happened on some items I pinned on Pinterest. I've recently been browsing through my own boards and clicking on random stuff just to get a better look. Quite a few of the Etsy listings I pinned have been changed to completely different items. These are listings from established sellers so it surprised me the first time I saw it happen. Now it just frustrates the heck out of me. It makes me, the original pinner, look like I messed up when in reality it's the seller that's using a loophole to get new items ranked higher in relevancy.

Exactly, Judy. I can't even explain how frustrating it is to find something on Pinterest or a similar website and click on it, only to find something completely different.

I'd say, avoid modifying your listings, if not because it's against Etsy's policies, but because it's a major annoyance to anyone who finds your products and wants to learn more about them.

Re: Question about modifying lisitings

Wow. I've actually never modified a listing completely since often it can take 3 or 4 months (or more) for a new item to catch on or sell. One of our most popular tshirts took about 7 months before we sold the first one. I think with etsy it just takes patience to sell something. I would always give an item (one of our tshirts) at least 2 relistings before I give up on it.

I agree with others. 20 cents is not worth getting in trouble and causing other issues.
