Putting links in your item descriptions?

Does anyone do it? Like your FB, Blog, links? I saw a shop that did, and thought it'd be a really good idea, especially for getting people to your blog, but not sure if it would turn off buyers as being pushy?

any thoughts?

Re: Putting links in your item descriptions?

I only use links back to my shop, related items like a matching bracelet and to my policies.
But they already did a lot for my views :)

Re: Putting links in your item descriptions?

I don't put links to my FB, Blog, or Twitter within the listings themselves. I mention them in my profile page only. I do include links to similar items within my store, links to specific sections in my store, and also a link to my store itself in case they come in through the listing.

Re: Putting links in your item descriptions?

I don't think etsy allows anything other than links back to your own shop, but I agree with Diana - my views have definitely gone up since I installed those!

Re: Putting links in your item descriptions?

Ok thank you! It sounds like it's not a great idea, but I do like the idea of putting shop and listing links in never thought to do that! I'm going to give it a shot.

Re: Putting links in your item descriptions?

I put links to the shop section the item they are looking at is from. My views have gone up a little since then :)

Re: Putting links in your item descriptions?

I agree with Claudia. I'm sure I've read somewhere, maybe in this Team, links that lead buyers outside Etsy are not allowed but perhaps you should doublecheck....however, you can link your shop to social media...

I tried to put a link to my Rebelmouse in my listing but it wouldn't accept it.

Re: Putting links in your item descriptions?

I don't think there is a rule against links out of Etsy unless it is to a site which sells the same items as your Etsy shop.
But I don't think it is good idea to give people more exits from your shop - you want to keep them there shopping.
I do link back to my shop.

Re: Putting links in your item descriptions?

I definitely put links in my listings! For example, related-selling links that help a customer see how they can coordinate my handmade earrings with one of my ceramic pendants. Helps customers spend more time in my shop! :-)

Re: Putting links in your item descriptions?

You can put links to you blog in your listing if you like but they won't be clickable, your buyer would have to copy and paste the URL into the address box.

I do however put links to my shop and/or similar items in my listings, though I've yet to see a huge increase in views from it...

Re: Putting links in your item descriptions?

I put a link to my shop, and a link to the related shop section of the item that the listing is for. My blog/FB/pinterest links are in my announcement and in my note to buyer/receipt in case they want ways to stay connected to my shop.

Re: Putting links in your item descriptions?

Not linking to other items is a wasted opportunity. I include a link back to my shop since a good portion of my views come from Google. Also, I link to my shop policies so the description doesn't get too wordy. Sometimes I link back to specific shop sections.

I agree with everyone else. Linking back to your shop or a shop section seems to be a better idea. Ellen

Re: Putting links in your item descriptions?

I think this is a great way to keep people in your shop and introduce them to similar items then the one they were just looking at :)

Re: Putting links in your item descriptions?

I link back to my shop or a category in my shop. (Like a complementary item). I put other links in my shop announcement or about me area.

Re: Putting links in your item descriptions?

The only links that will be 'active' in your listing will be the ones that link within Etsy, I think.

For example, I have a print set of shoes available, but can't put a full-size image of each individual shoe in the listing. I provided a URL to my website that shows each full-size image, but this link is not clickable on Etsy.

The links that are clickable are the ones within my store. Since I have a set available for 'flat' shoes and a set for heels, I provided a link to the other in each listing. I also put a link to my store in general so someone could click to see what else I offer besides shoe prints. I've noticed it helps, and it makes navigating your shop a little easier :]

I put links to my website and blog into my shop announcement and profile.

Re: Putting links in your item descriptions?

well, I only use links back to my Etsy shop! :) maybe that's b/c I don't have other shops at other websites.

Re: Putting links in your item descriptions?

The links on your 'about' page will show your Facebook, twitter and blog and they are clickable.

Within the individual listings, I'll show 'similar' items or other colours that are available in every listing as well as a link to the main page of my shop.

It certainly does help my buyers navigate.

Re: Putting links in your item descriptions?

I dont put up links to my twitter or blog on any of my listing since it takes a buyer off my shop and we dont exactly want that because they could leave and never come back :p. However its a good idea to put links in your item descriptions that lead to other pages in your shop (It does work and it did add to my views). Hope that helped =)
