Putting an item on hold

How do you go about putting an item on hold for somebody? I deactivated the item. Is there another way?

Mark listing Reserved for......
First line in description should be-
Please do not bid on this item unless you are...........

Leave it activated but change the title to "Reserved for ________" and add the same to the description.

I mark the listing as RESERVED (I don't add an identifier because not everyone wants their name attached to it; some like anonymity).

Make sure you put information in your policies about your stance on reserving items!
