Promoting on social networks?

I've really tried to stay away from Facebook, Blogspot, Twitter, and all those social networking sites, but I'm becoming pretty desperate to promote my shop since I still haven't been getting very many views on my items, nor any sales. :[ So, I've decided to jump on the promoting bandwagon and am going to create a page for my shop on one of the social sites, like Facebook or Blogspot!

My question is, which site do you prefer most for promoting your items? Twitter? Facebook? Some other site? I'm creating an account on only one site, and want to choose the best. And does it really, really help with promoting your shop? I'm a newbie to the social network and need some expert help! :]

It's funny because I think I mentioned Tumblr about 5 times today! Having a Blog on Tumblr has really worked out for me and it's the only one that I use so far. I hope this helps you out!

As of right now, I am only using Facebook. I do feel that it has helped with the views. I am considering a blog, too, but not till this summer. Anything you pick will take TIME!

For me, twitter, with facebook a close second. My blog is vital to all of that though, it's my 'home' online where I talk about everything I do (epherielldesigns.com).

Facebook and twitter are where you can build communities, and they act as a funnel.

Social media is my number 1 promotion tool, and I'm full-time in business for myself thanks to it. (this shop is only one of the things I do!)

If you just need to open a shop page or Fan page I have founded that facebook is more popular and I have made much more connection from a team members. I dont have a blog and I think is taking to much of your time.

I get a lot of views from both Facebook and Twitter. I've gotten three sales from Facebook. I have a blog mostly because I just like blogging; I haven't got any hits from it.

I use a lot of others too but am consistent with those. I also do twitter - but mostly my fb fan page sends my updates to twitter. I'm not very active there. I also have my own mailing list.

I started a Tumblr a few days ago, and it's generated more traffic than a month of facebooking and Etsy networking combined.

I've had great luck with my Facebook fan page. I currently have almost 1K "fans" and it has definitely funneled a lot of attention to my Etsy. I've had some luck with Twitter, but I'm actually not a fan of the limitations of the forum myself. I also use LiveJournal and Blogspot, and prefer Blogspot because of the general decline of LJ.

i use all of them! everything! links everywhere!!! i refuse to pay for advertising. so far anyways. going to do a few paid advertising in the next couple of months to see if it makes a difference!

Meh, I haven't had much luck with Facebook, but I'm probably not doing something right.
For me, Tumblr has been #1 since the beginning, I just love it. I find it so simple and easy to use, but still really nice for blogging. I'm http://sacari.tumblr.com if anyone's interested :)

I just started Twitter and Facebook a little while ago. Haven't had any sales from them, but I probably need to work them more. Twitter is easier and I feel easier to get followers where Facebook it seems is hard to get followers or I am doing something wrong which is probably the case. :)

I will keep trying and maybe check out Tumbir.

Thank you all so much for the help and suggestions! I just tried joining Facebook since that seemed the most popular, but got really confused with it and deactivated it. It was just too advanced for me, LOL :]

Once you get your tumblr going, you can make it so that your tumblr posts get sent to your twitter, which is a pretty nice feature :)

Whichever method you use, please remember the 'social' in social networking.

If all you are doing is continually posting links (like I see so many Etsians doing on twitter) you really aren't networking at all!

I've been on twitter for more than 3 years and I've found that the ones who are most successful are the people who are actually chatting with people and making connections.

I use facebook and twitter for this account, and my other shop, twobadbananas. Twitter does create instant views and provides helpful links, but facebook seems harder to actually get people to follow the page, which I find a shame as I feel it could offer me a lot more in terms of promotion. Does anyone have any tips on how to get people to like the page? Also, can anyone tell me how to make my facebbok status updates go to my twitter account? It's such a timesaver, but since they revamped the pages feature I can't work out how to do it for the life of me! I'd be eternally grateful!
