Pricing question

Currently I charge $28 for an 8x10 photo print. The print is not mounted or matted or anything. It is just a print. For a 5x7 print that has been matted for an 8x10 frame I charge $20. Does this pricing make sense? I am wondering if they should be the same. Should I maybe charge $25 for both? I'm not really sure how the cost breaks down but my guess is it all works out to be the same because of packaging the 8x10. I figure the cost of mounting and matting the 5x7 is the same as packaging the 8x10 for shipping. As a hypothetical customer would you think both of these items would be the same price?

Re: Pricing question

To be honest, I would think that the cost would go up slightly for a larger print. I would make staggered pricing for each size and to mat the print piece, like for instance in my shop, a 16x16 inch pillow cover is usually 25 dollars, but an 18 by 18 inch cover is 30, and for silks I have some for 35.

In the end it all depends on how you want to do. Great pictures by the way!

Re: Pricing question

Why aren't you sure how the price breaks down? I calculate my prices depending on time, materials, complexity - and even on demand sometimes if I get too busy (no, that doesn't happen too often)

you're the only one who knows how much you pay for your materials and how much you value your time and skill

Re: Pricing question

It sounds like I need to sit my butt down and really break down the costs on all of my products.

Thanks for the compliment Cynthia.

Re: Pricing question

I'm in the same boat. I did a small craft fair and did not sell one item, although most vendors didn't sell anything either. But I am wondering about my prices. I feel that I am fairly prices for my time and skill as well as the materials I use but no one seemed very interested at this very small show I did. Any advice on handmade jewelry prices?

Re: Pricing question

You need to work out how much everything costs and how much you need to price each of your items in order to make profit. I think, by what you say, you haven't done this and I think this is something you should set aside time to do properly.

Re: Pricing question

If I was a buyer, I would assume that an 8x10 print costs more to produce than a 5x7. Looking at your two listings the prices seem fair from a buyer's point of view.

Girl, you need to sit down and figure out your prices! :)

That's a gorgeous covered bridge photo. I thought it was Vermont when I saw Green Mountain in the title.
