Pricing Question

I used the formula provided by Etsy to come up with pricing for my items along with researching what my competitiors are charging. However, the more I look into pricing the more confused I get about if I am charging an oppropriate amount for my art. Especially since I only have one sale (from someone I know) it is causing me to second guess that my prices are not where they should be. Any input would be greatly helpful. Thanks!

Re: Pricing Question

I did a pretty typical markup when I first opened. I doubled my cost(including everything from materials to time to packaging) and that is my wholesale cost. Doubled that and that is my retail price. Now that was easier to do when I was buying all of my fabric wholesale, it might be harder for some buying their materials at retail prices. Make sure that you are charging what you need to make to make it worth it. Don't apologize for that.

Re: Pricing Question

I think your prices are fine. Did you act on any of the advice you received in your past thread? I just took a look at your shop and your photos are pretty dark. That might be hurting you more than your prices.

Re: Pricing Question

Yes I know I still need to fix up my photos even my new ones they are lighter since I doctor them up with editing software but there still always seems to be some sort of glare on the glasses since I try to open blinds to get as much natural light as possible. Though that is tough lately since I gets dark so early.

Re: Pricing Question

Hello Kelly,
Pricing can be difficult and confusing. I think it might be your titles, tags and photos.
I searched for purple wine glass art and your hibiscus glasses didn't show up. http://www.etsy.com/listing/118786881/purple-hibiscus-hand-painted-wine-glass
Think like a customer would what would you look for if you wanted a wine glass with purple flowers on it?
I know how time consuming taking photos are but try to make your shop look more cohesive through your photos. This shop has sharp pictures with white back grounds and everything pops.

You can also use the "rearrange your shop" button to keep like items grouped together.

I think your prices are fine. Watch this http://www.etsy.com/community/online-labs The Art of Pricing it helped me a lot.

Re: Pricing Question

I altered tags on some of my items (like the purple hiiscus glass it shows up now!) I;m still trying to decide if I want to go for the white background for everything or use the bamboo matts that are in the listing you used for the example. Perhaps I will only use the bamboo mats for the asian inspired ones and do the rest on a white background. Or is that too un-cohesive?
I will also need to look for the "rearrange shop button". Thanks for your help.

Re: Pricing Question

I added a couple new items and took the pictures at a different spot today. What do you think of the new ones? Any suggestions? I cant seem to get rid of the reflections on the glasses. Also I was thinking of doing a bamboo mat for theasian influenced items and white for everything else. Would that be distracting and look bad or do you think it would be helpful?
