Possible buyers

I have been checking people favoring items and have some ideas - not sure if they are accurate, but think they can help evaluate the quality of favoring = possibility the person who favored buyes.
- Favorites from teammates, especially on multiple items mean possibly just support from the person
- Favorites from a person who favorites several items of similar color or style - searching for items to put in a treasury = increased exposure
- Favorites from a person that favored similar items (eg sandals in my case, or red necklaces) = possible buyer doing research

Not sure if my thoughts fit into some statistics, but it seems logical, what do you think?

Re: Possible buyers

Personally, I've noticed that most buyers don't take the time to favorite my items. In fact, they often only view the item they buy once, which I think is interesting.
People who favorite an item may just want to be able to locate the item at a later time more easily when and if they are ready to buy, at least that's what I do.

Re: Possible buyers

Hi,

Most faves are from teammates trying to also promote their shops and doing threads

I have had buyers fave then buy later but mostly they just view and buy right away or view, make note of, or fave your shop, then come back later

People searching for items or doing research fave similar items and colors, and sometimes for treasuries too or at least similar colors or themes

I have found that on Etsy in general faving just passes items around to each other, other shop owners, and is not effective for getting sales

While some of us shop owners do buy from others it is not that much or often enough

Sometimes a buyer might see something they like but the best way to get sales is to bring in shoppers from the internet via social media

I also wish that people would remember, especially newer shops that we are all trying to promote our shops and not send
"thank you" for faving my item convos to other shop owners.

It's not only against Etsy's spamming policy but can be annoying if many people send you these convos because you are doing team threads and faving lots of items!

Otherwise it's great to hear from people and get to know them, LOL!

HUgs,

Re: Possible buyers

Hi Pam and Jewel,
nice to get some insight from more experienced sellers, as I am actually a new seller (filled up the shop very recently, had it sleeping, lol)

From what you said I realised that it is true, all 3 sales came from people who don't have shops and didn't favor, just choose and buy I guess - although 3 sales don't give statistics.

I am more a choose- compare- show- decide person but that is not same for most buyers I guess.

I also agree with your spamming comment Pam, guess it is tiring when it happens too often..

Well, thanks again for the insight!

Re: Possible buyers

Maria,
I would say that about 1/3 of my sales have been from other Etsy shop owners - just saying...I think it's great that we support each other. I know that I personally do my gift shopping on Etsy, as do many other shop owners.

Re: Possible buyers

I tend to buy from other Etsy sellers I know or am on teams with...I guess because I am a seller, I want to support other sellers...but my customers have not been other sellers so far...and the majority of my customers have not favourited my shop or items...very interesting.

I'm sure there is a whole science behind what makes people buy from you that I do not understand yet, or may never understand, I am just grateful they do buy from me! :)

I am still new to this whole system, and find it difficult to understand sometimes...but it all interesting and I love reading what other people think...

Re: Possible buyers

There's a shop that has around 20,000 favorites but only 300 sales. I have around 5000 favorites and 1100 sales. People who favorite almost never buy. I don't think I've ever purchased anything I've favorited. When I do buy on Etsy, it's 1-2-3. When I see something I want I don't need any extra time. I look at the sellers feedback and policies and if they are good I immediately the item to the cart and pay for it

Re: Possible buyers

The majority of the time while I'm shopping on Etsy, I will buy it without favoriating. The only time I will favorite an item is when its a knitting pattern (I'm a horrible stickler for my patterns and I will favorite them as a holding spot until I know which one is the one I most want).

In all my sales, only one of them was from a favorite.
