Photographing items which are difficult to photograph

I have an item in my shop with a photo that I took on my tiled dorm room floor, and I hate it. This item went big on tumblr a while ago, and I feel like this photo is discouraging buys from people who wanted to buy it. The item is a 5x4 foot blanket, and it is a non-traditional shape, and made out of granny squares. I don't have a large, flat, solid colored surface to photograph it front-on, and because of the holes, I feel like photographing it on a bed wont work out too well because of the coloring. The item is the binding of issac blanket in my shop. any advice?

I think it would look fine on a bed, it's better than the floor. Just my opinion, but I if you put a white sheet on your bed with the blanket on top, that would look fine.

Maybe you can find a fence or picnic table to drape it over? Taking a shot outside of might brighten things up a bit. Maybe make people associate it with a picnic or something you could bring with you?
Good Luck!

Like Lutzjewelry suggestion of the outside photo. I like your photos taken outside; they really show the cozy look of the yarn. Try having a friend wrap it around themselves and shoot outdoors. It's easy to move around to get a good backdrop. Try having 2 people hold it up, one on each side, to show scale. Toss it over a tree branch like you would over a sofa or chair. Show people how many ways they can use it. :)

the picture on your tiles may be better if there wasn't that area of sunlight; have you tried photographing it at a different time of day or maybe you can try hanging it on a wall?

Since it is a blanket I say it should be where it should be used, have a white sheet underneath so it will not clash colour wise.
