Pay for Postage

I purchased two items from seller and she discounted the shipping fee. When I went to pay for items I noticed that there was shipping fee for only one item. Didn't think anything of it and went ahead and paid for the items. She emailed and said that I need to pay an additional amount for shipping. How do I pay the addt'l charge when the order has already been closed and listed as sold?
Please help. : (

Re: Pay for Postage

Sorry this happened. Unless you LOVE and can't live without the items, cancel the transaction.

It sounds like the seller did not put the right postage on her items. She cannot ask for more postage on a transaction you have completed. She should take the loss on your purchase and fix her listings.

Re: Pay for Postage

If she needs you to pay extra for shipping, the burden is on her to figure out how. She should just take the loss, and not ask you to pay extra.

Re: Pay for Postage

Yes, she should be able to set up a listing for "extra shipping" only.

Re: Pay for Postage

You should NOT pay extra shipping!
It's the seller's mistake and the seller's loss.
Asking you to make up for her mistake is bad business practice.

Re: Pay for Postage

That's awkward. I wouldn't ask the buyer to pay extra after a transaction. I would feel embarrassed. I would make a note and correct what I need so I don't have a loss next time.

Besides, if you purchased 2 items, wouldn't the second shipping price be a small amount? Or is it a large amount?

Re: Pay for Postage

I did purchase two items from her shop in the UK and she gave me a small break on shipping. Now this is a seller that does not ship outside of the UK, but when I showed my interest in the items she was ok with shipping them to me. My credit card has already been charged for the two items plus shipping for one item. When I selected the 2nd item it did not show a shipping amt. The following info is what she is now requesting:

(Hi, would you mind if I tried sending you an invoice directly from my Paypal account. I have read that it can be paid even if you don't have a Paypal account.)

I do have a PayPal acct., but wouldn't this be against all Etsy rules?
Should I check with Etsy customer service for right thing to do? I don't want the trouble to end up closing my shop. Please help. Thanks, : (

Re: Pay for Postage

Everyone does business differently. If it was a small amount, I usually would just cover it myself; or in a case that I delayed the work, I'd cover the Priority Mail myself, but not every seller the same...

In this case, if both the seller and buyer agree on paying for extra shipping, that's fine too. I just thought the seller should be more proactive on communication. From my point of view, if you as a buyer is willing to pay for extra shipping, I'd just set up a listing for you to pay for that amount. It is as simple as that and I don't get why it gets so complicated... be honest... :)

Re: Pay for Postage

Thanks Fishcouple,

I know that this shouldn't be so complicated, but sometimes it is better to be safe by asking then sorry later.
