Package Ideas?

I'm looking into alternate packing ideas and I wanted to see if anyone had any neat/crafty ideas that show personality! Do you get more repeated customers if the package is different from the rest? I'm open to any ideas.

Re: Package Ideas?

Personally, I'm not a huge fan of lots of packaging. If it isn't necessary to keep the item safe, it seems wasteful. If it is all fancy, I wonder how much of what I paid was for packaging. At the same time, I rec'd an order yesterday that was very memorably packaged. It didn't seem overly wasteful, so it left a good impression.

Re: Package Ideas?

Our items are small and flat (and are okay with being a little bent) so we ship in little kraft paper bags, they don't have flat bottoms, they're the flat envelope type bags and we stamp hearts and our logo on them. it's not super fancy but it isn't expensive and I feel it helps with the handmade feel since we take the time to do that to all our packaging!

Our other shop though is small softies and I hand make boxes out of cereal boxes (or other boxes around the house) and stamp them with hearts and the stuffing around the animals is strips of magazine paper. recycling can be a lot cheaper than going out and buying fancy cut paper or bubble wrap. (obviously that only works for certain items though!)

Re: Package Ideas?

I use stickers like these on my packages to dress them up:

Re: Package Ideas?

I find a pretty tissue paper, depending on the season or holiday. Then I wrap the product and use a business sticker to close it, and then I always put a handwritten thank you note. It's been liked so far.

Re: Package Ideas?

I use cool coloured tissue, ribbon and my own printed stickers so it all feels part of the brand. Don't spend a fortune on it! I use colour to make things pop and be memorable and always include a little card with a handwritten note...and a free sweetie if I can fit it in :)

Re: Package Ideas?

I've just come across this shop with some lovely packaging ideas that don't have to be limited to soap -

tissue wrap with washi tape:

threads & button on tissue wrap:

and my favourite bec I have lots of fabric strips to get rid of, tissue wrap with fabric strips & button:

I think they are so pretty, and can be achieved with minimal effort. you could even use newsprint if your item would not get damaged with the possible excess ink.

Re: Package Ideas?

I create a lot of my own packaging and I use a particular kind and color of paper to create a "brand" image. I also make sure to include a sticker or tag on each piece with my company info on it. My custom tags have my info on the back less ostentacious but easily found way. I also always handwrite notes.

I amke sure all of my items are gift giving ready. It doesnt really cost very much but it creates a memory and I've had very positive responses from buyers.

Re: Package Ideas?

Hello everyone,

Just came across this thread, lovely ideas. Does wrapping items in paper protect them in shipping? Paper can rip easily

Re: Package Ideas?

I too am against unnecessary packaging. I use flat plastic boxes for fragile items, which are specially made to fit the requirements of the Swiss post. If the items are thicker, I recycle cardboard boxes. I make sure the packages are neat but sturdiness is my prime concern. I have received a lot of praise on my packaging but not because it is fancy !

Re: Package Ideas?

Ok, I actually have to disagree with some of you. As a customer and a shop owner, when I order something I look forward to getting it in the mail! Even if it is just supplies I get excited!
I love seeing that some one has taken the time to wrap something to make it look pretty. I personally use this packaging now on all of my items whether it is a gift or not. It turned out not to be expensive because it was purchased in the "wedding favor" section. I think it makes a statement and is memorable.
I will say I have received packages that had TOO much stuff. That got annoying. Simple and sweet! My items are small so I can use small packaging. I don't know about those who have larger prints or items.
Hope that helps!
