One year old

So, I opened my shop a year ago, I thought it would be a good idea to make lots of different things and let it all ride to see what would or wouldn't sell, then I would just focus on the type that sold, giving my shop some sort of cohesion. One year in, I am still none the wiser. I seem to have sold items across the board, nothing in particular, apart from my elephants seems to have risen to the surface. What should I do now? I would like to specialize, but in what? Help needed, suggestions, opinions, anything welcome

Re: One year old

Hi Angela, my kids are well out of "children's clothes and toys" stage, so the items in your shop which really catch my eye are your gorgeous tea cosies and egg cosies. I also think you could make and sell more amigurumi items - I have bought some of those on here recently. Lovely shop - good luck for your next year :)

Re: One year old

If you specialize, then it should at least be what you LOVE to do. If you love to create everything you have listed in your shop, and everything is selling, then there is nothing to worry about!

Re: One year old

Yup. Make what you love. It shows.

I've had people tell me that I should either do baskets or pincushions, and not both because they don't "go" together. But I love making both, so I'm gonna keep doing it!

Re: One year old

Congrats on your first Etsyversary!

I am doing quite well on Etsy, but never felt the need to specialize.
I have a few bestselling product lines, so I mainly focus on those, but that does not stop me from making/listing other products.

Re: One year old

Congrats!
Since everything is selling in your shop why not just make what you feel that day. You are hitting different markets and buyers are coming in I would keep doing what ever you are doing. Good luck in the coming year!

Re: One year old

Oh thanks for that everyone. You have hit the nail on the head, I just love to create things and I do whatever I am either inspired to make or, if I want a challenge, I learn a new skill. I have a couple of amigurumi's and that is because I have recently taught myself to crochet and I love doing it. I am so grateful for the feedback, it has really settled my mind, I think I will continue this year just like last year and keep on creating. Thankyou

Re: One year old

Congratulations..... I agree with the majority.....if you enjoy making a variety of things and that seems to be working, why change.

I just had to search amigurumi......I hadn't a clue....I know now!

Re: One year old

Congratulations on your 1 year Anniversary! Whoot!

I personally like a little variety. I think your shop is fine and most items are knitted, which in itself makes them relevant. I think of a brick and mortar store that has different sections. I would not stay in a store long that has only 1 or 2 types of product to offer.
