October Slow Down?

Hey all,

I am experiencing an October Slump. For Etsy veterans... Did you feel like there was a slump right before Christmas shopping started?

We're not seeing it-but we usually do, so I am surprised!

Re: October Slow Down?

Last year we had an October slow down (from September sales). This October we are extremely busy. We have already tripled last years October.

Very good month here. Orders up, but more importantly, doubled my revenue from last year. woohoo!

Re: October Slow Down?

Very slow after a great September. I'm starting to wonder if I'm still in business!

Re: October Slow Down?

Mine has dropped since the browse feature. I've not had a single view from it and the views from categories has dropped, presumably because categories are not very noticeable on the front page now and most miniature buyers look for a dolls and miniature category when checking out sites.

Re: October Slow Down?

My views are about the same, but my sales are less than half of what they have been the last couple of months. People are attributing the new browse feature (by people I am referring to a lot of people, not just Blue Kitty as mentioned above). I am actually getting way more views from that then I ever did just from categories. I only got views from categories within the first hour of posting a new listing. I am now getting views from the new browse on days where I haven't listed in days.

Re: October Slow Down?

Miniaturists did slightly shoot ourselves in the foot by demanding to be removed from the main browse section we were pushed into which was Kids and Toys but as we could be in all sorts of legal difficulties if we were seen to be promoting as being "kids toys" both under EU and USA laws we had no option but to complain.

Now we do appear to be under "Home and Living" but we all agree that nobody hoping to find collectable dollhouse items would think to look there so its hardly surprising its badly affected us.

Just as things took off 4 years ago when we were given the category so it seems to be diminishing now things have been changed.

If things aren't improved I think a lot of the sellers will be going to other sites which still have the almost universally accepted category of "Dolls and Miniatures" to enable boyers to find what they want. Without seeing that newcomers probably wouldn't even stay long enough to use search as they would assume the category wasn't catered for on a site.

Re: October Slow Down?

I started this months with many views, but for the past 10 days they have slowed down. I really don't know why, since I've been doing the same.

On the other hand, no sales, as there were no sales in September :(

Re: October Slow Down?

Sales were steadily increasing until the new browse, then plummeting views and only one sale....

Re: October Slow Down?

I can not compare last year with this one since in meantime I have doubled my inventory and my promotional efforts. However I experienced a significant dip when the new browse was introduced, though I had bounced back. However the difference is that before people have been looking at (and buying) my teapots and now it is only cups. Since I enjoy making teapots far more than cups, never mind cups are cheaper, I am not sure how Christmas shopping will be.

Re: October Slow Down?

I think things are just generally slow for a lot of us. Back in late August/September I had thought that things were picking up, but since the end of September I've had one sale. That's in spite of investing a huge amount of time into promo, listing, tweaking existing listings, taking new photos, learning & applying more SEO to my listings... all of this.

In terms of views, mine are generally down right now. Usually with the amount of time I am investing on a daily basis, I manage at least 250-400 views daily. At the moment I'm lucky to break 200.

Best of luck to all of you. I hope that things pick up.

Re: October Slow Down?

I was on vacation most of September and I'm new since early summer so I don't have much to compare with, but I'm also very surprised on how slow October is, had only 3 sales so far this month - even if I've had A LOT of views, they have definitely increased. And I must say I've been happy with the browse sections, I get a lot more views through them than I ever got through categories..

Re: October Slow Down?

September was slower, this month has been very slow. I'm thinking it's to do with it being a lull in between the main wedding season & holiday shopping kicking in fully. This weekend's been way better...four sales so far, so maybe it's starting now. Pretty please?

Re: October Slow Down?

I was doing really well with the introduction of browse as I was used as link photo on the main art page- very exciting for a week or so. I have gone now and views have really slumped unsurprisingly. So I'm not really sure how October is going to pan out. I think it was around this time last year thighs began picking up so who knows?!

Re: October Slow Down?

I am getting views, average 20 a day, but no sales for a couple of months. I realize Jewelry is a saturated market... I am getting really discouraged.
