My Shop Is Having An Identity Crisis

I originally created my Beach In A Box beach escape gift set and everything I did had a beachy, tropical theme.

As time as passed I have branched in to some spa type relaxation and skin products. I have also expanded my scents and flavors beyond the beach.

My personalized items, lip balms especially, have started taking off so I have a "favors and business promotion" department as well.

I am trying to re-invent my shop to tie it all together and quite honestly I can't seem to clear my head enough to see where I need to go.

My shop's "point of view" is to offer products, gifts and favors that offer a little sensory treat and mini escape from a hectic day and while I'd like to capture everything, I'd like to keep the beachy undertone. I'm thinking of AquaSerene as one of my potential new shop names.

In the meantime, I'm neglecting my shop and have not listed many of my products or updated photos and descriptions because I'm holding off until I basically re-launch.

I would really appreaciate any feedback and/or advice becasue I'm ready to get moving.

THANKS!

Re: My Shop Is Having An Identity Crisis

Hi! I think it's great that you are expanding your business even though it's creating a bit of an identity crisis. Perhaps you should center your theme around pampering oneself. It seems that all the items you have been developing would make me feel as though I am treating myself to something special, and so I think it would be good for you to emphasize that point. I'm horrible at coming up with shop names, so I'm of no use there, but just wanted to suggest this theme. Good luck!

Re: My Shop Is Having An Identity Crisis

Hi! I just checked out your shop, and I have to say I love the beach in a box name and theme! I think it's a unique point of view, and face it- to most of us, that says relaxation and pampering! I would not recomend scrapping what you have and starting a new shop. You'll lose the sales and feedback that you've worked so hard to gain. How depressing will it be to put all of your energy into starting new and seeing that big fat 0 for sales and feedback? Why not stick with the theme for your shops overall tone, but make new sections for your new products? AquaSerene could be a section for more "spa-like" scents, and come up with catchy phrases for your other products? -something cute for the fruit scents, etc? So thats my two cents for what it's worth. But good luck to you in what you decide is the right move for you!

Re: My Shop Is Having An Identity Crisis

Thanks to you both.

I've been bouncing this around for all the good reasons you mentioned crocodilecrunch.
IF I did go ahead with the "re-invention" I would simply change the shop name and not close the existing shop so all the stats would remain the same.
You might just be right and I might be better off focusing my energy on production, sales and marketing...especially with the holidays breathing down our necks.

Re: My Shop Is Having An Identity Crisis

I think the name is fine, when you think of a beach you think of vacation and pampering yourself so it still fits with the new theme..

don't forget though, fancy names for sections/titles/etc like crocodilecrunch suggested decrease SEO.

And another good point to consider.

Also I didn't mention that I am getting some yoga and exercise studio, as well as massage therapists as customers. Another reason I'm thinking of renaming to something that caputures everything.
