How does one create a banner to use on the site? When I put a picture on, it's only showing a small portion of it, or looks weird. I guess I don't know how to size. Is there a website or software to use? Thanks for any help from you experts out there!

Re: Making a banner

What site are you talking about? is it OFF ETSY, or is it a second shop here? Perhaps put up a link so we could see? Do they have any tutorials or a help desk? It could be that your pictures are too large. Try saving them around 600x800 pixels, there abouts. Or pre-sized format, Web-Large, then if that doesn't work, web small. AND> please charge a LITTLE more. You don't want to lower the price point range for the rest of us!
It's just an issue I have strong feelings about!

Re: Making a banner

Personally - I use powerpoint for everything! I created a custom size 8 x 1 and when i insert pictures they automatically size for the document. I can rearrange, edit, crop, insert text, or just about anything. My biggest hint is save it twice- once as a ppt and once as a picture (jpg)- Etsy will only upload jpg, but you can always go back and edit your banner if you have a ppt to work from.

@TheWinglessDesigns

I just read your reply to my post in this thread.
You say :"Spirale, your comment is just silly & ignorant. You obviously don't have photoshop. ".

You don't need to be so aggressive. And yes I have Photoshop and I've been working with Photoshop since the Photoshop 3.0, I'm a graphic designer and an illustrator this is why I think it's totally justified to say that buying Photoshop just for making a banner it's a little bit too much. I never said that Photoshop wasn't useful. If you read correctly Debbie Ferrin original post you'll see that she just wanted to know how to make a simple banner, so yes, in this particular case I think it's funny to recommend her to buy Photoshop because it's very expensive and you need a very good reason to invest in this software, otherwise you can get Gimp, it's free.

Re: Making a banner

I am offering Etsy Shop Owners FREE banners for their shops. Here's how it works: Fire me off a convo with a link to your shop, a plea for a new banner, your email, and a little blurb about what your shop is all about. I'll get back to you through email with your brand new shop banner totally free of charge. The ONLY thing I do ask of you is that if you use the banner I give you, please try to promote my shop in any way you can (Ex: Saying in your Shop Announcement that Maggie from MagsKnickKnacks made your new banner). I love creating banners and using photo-editing software so don't expect any hidden fees or fine print. Just shoot out a convo and we'll talk!

I don't know if I am crazy, but I have changed my banner 5 times. Can't make up my mind it seems. :)
