Lost package found but sent a replacement

I sent a package on Dec 5 and it still hadn't arrived (us address) and the tracking only showed that I had bought the label. I sent a replacement out yesterday. Today I look at it just out of curiosity and the original package was finally scanned and it's on it's way. Can I just tell the customer to mark the replacement 'return to sender' or will she have to send it from the post office?

Happy Holidays!

I had a similar situation happen. I just asked the buyer to write "REFUSED. RETURN TO SELLER" on the second package to arrive. It came back to me.

Re: Lost package found but sent a replacement

So if someone writes on the front of the envelope 'REFUSED; RETURN TO SENDER' or some variation without opening it, and just drop it in a letter box, it'll get back to them just like that? If that's true I must remember that in case I have such a situation - it would save me the trouble of having to refund the buyer for shipping, and keep them from having to head to the post office to pay it themselves.

Re: Lost package found but sent a replacement

The couple of times I've refused a package I brought it back to the post office (5 minutes from my house) and handed it back over the counter. Just be sure to advise your buyer not to open it. If it's opened they'll have to pay up front to send it back.
