Longest time before first sale?

Hey all! I am really new to Etsy and just joined a week ago! I really love how much fun I'm having just participating in the culture and community on the site. I haven't had any sales yet, which is fine because this is just a fun thing I'm doing on the site (I will always paint even if nobody wants my work!), but it got me wondering: what's the longest amount of time before your (or your friend's) first sale? I'm interested to see how patient everyone has to be before it starts paying off!

Re: Longest time before first sale?

Ah! I love your art, sure keep doing them!

Well, talking about first sale I had to wait 6 months and 15 days before having mine 3 years ago. But I don't think you will wait that long :)
Anyway Etsy is a wonderful world indeed, enjoy it, read, learn, and stay inspired.

Good luck, Egan, your Universe is beautiful!

Re: Longest time before first sale?

Thank you so much Savenna! Even though you had to wait that long it looks like your sales have picked up since then! Sometimes I have a hard time being patient with things so hearing that it took great stuff like yours a while to take off makes me feel a lot better actually.

Thanks for taking a look!

Re: Longest time before first sale?

Hi Egan...I am a new seller as well...been about 2 1/2 months now. I actually had my 1st sale after a week (I was pretty excited!!), then another week 1 and another 1.....then a month nothing. But it has picked up again, just got 2. It is fun for sure, I just got into the groups and making friends. Been working on my shop and pictures...etc. Hopefully things will really get going now and for you too!! :)

Best of luck,
Bonnie

Re: Longest time before first sale?

Your work is very interesting - the word that comes to mind is "mesmerizing". I hope you keep adding more pieces.

I had my first sale a little more than a month after opening - those items were sold mainly to friends and family. I am so thankful to them. I stopped adding items to my shop for a while and I immediately noticed a sharp decline in views and, of course, sales. I am now trying to revive my little shop, realizing that jewelry is an extremely competitive field. It takes constant work and care, but it is a fun ride and I love what I am doing.

I wish you great success and lots of sales.

Re: Longest time before first sale?

Summer can be a very hard to start a shop b/c you can easily get discouraged -- I started mine a year ago last June. I didn't have a sale on Etsy until the fall ... but around Xmas time it really picked up and then declined again until spring. I would take the lull to really do alot of research -- photos, tags, titles (i.e., SEO), etc. Plus start promoting on social media. I am now going to go take a look at your shop -- good luck!!!!

Re: Longest time before first sale?

Welcome to etsy, Egan! As I looked at your shop, I have some hints to help with getting your shop found here in this online world. Take this listing for example https://www.etsy.com/listing/195566103/spray-paint-on-posterboard-planet-family?ref=shop_home_active...

All of your titles are the same and probably not something customers would search for - always think like the customer and use aspects of your painting for your titles ie: Moonlight Landscape Art Print, Planets in Space Painting, etc. The first 40-50 characters of your titles are what search engines pick up so make sure those words/characters tell the customer what you are selling.

Restate your title in the opening sentence of your listing - reworded in a pleasing manner to entice visitors to read on. Be sure to incorporate the key words from your title throughout your listing description.

I noticed in your materials list you use magazine pages...your description doesn't say anything about how you incorporate those pages into your paintings. Try to make sure that each aspect/material you use is described. Customers like to hear the process you use to create your products.

Tag words are very important in being found. I always list my tag words in the order of my titles and always use multi word tags.

Backlinks keep customers in your shop. At the end of your listing invite them to look at another painting and post the page link to that product.

Your paintings are very nice and very unique! Keep listing new paintings as the larger your shop the greater the chance of being found and garnering sales. Hope some of these tips help!

Re: Longest time before first sale?

Your work looks amazing. Perhaps you should consider adding in international shipping!

I havent had any sales yet, but to be honest that's purely my fault, haven't been listing my items as diligently as I should. But I love your work, and here's wishing you all the best.

Re: Longest time before first sale?

I was on Etsy for six months before I had one sale! I worked social media and joined treasury making teams. My shop took 2 years to get to the sales volume I was happy with. Keep promoting and keep adding product, and always keep improving your shop - it will never be perfect. Good luck!

Re: Longest time before first sale?

I must say that I have been very lucky. I started listing my items in the first days of June and maybe two weeks later I sold two lovely coin purses! Then I had a custom order from a friend that lives in France.

Re: Longest time before first sale?

Congrats on the sale! Your art is beautiful!
It took my shop 4 months for the first sale, by 8months I had 8 sales after a year I started seeing more regular sales.

Joining promotion teams helped my shop tremendously. Not only did I learn how to improve tags, titles and seo, but we also help promote each other too.
I am sure your shop will get many more sales... Again, your art is beautiful! Happy Sales

Love your work! So unique and beautiful.
I waited for good 9 months before my first sale. Didn't know I was that patient.

Re: Longest time before first sale?

i had my first sale within my first month, i still don´t know why though, my pictures back then were horrible...
you have really great items and like it´s been said above, vary your titles, otherwise google won´t like you and that would be a pity....
you should also add a banner (should be easy with your spray paint skills...) and you should definitely raise your prices (you could easily at least triple them)
also think about shipping internationally, i would not be able to buy your work as i´m located in europe. don´t be afraid of high shipping costs, if people really want your stuff, they will buy it!!!!!!
all the best
