Listing items on Etsy that are sold elsewhere

I am going to have my first table at a craft fair this weekend and hope to be able to sell some of my beautiful necklaces. I would like to know how some of you have handled the sale of items that were listed on your Etsy site but not sold on Etsy. Do you just de-list the item once it is sold? What if it sells in both places (I should be so lucky)?

Your comments and ideas are welcome.

If it's gone, make another one? If not possible, apologize sincerely to the customer, and cancel the order? That's probably what I would do. But wait... I'm not selling outside of etsy yet...

If you have wireless capability, you can de-list your item as it sells. If not, then do as emarcidorchid suggests. I have sold outside of Etsy at craft show and it usually works fine. Make sure you post in your shop announcement that you are at a craft show and items are subject to prior sale too. That way when customers see an item they can contact you about it first to see if it is available.

Re: Listing items on Etsy that are sold elsewhere

I usually sell every sunday in a fair....And I take all my items with me!
Every saturday night, I de-list the items I only have one or those really hard to make...I leave active those I can do in few hours or those I have many of them...
When I come back home, at sunday night, I change the status again....
=)

Re: Listing items on Etsy that are sold elsewhere

I will have my first booth this Saturday, too!! The advice I got was to put your shop on vacation mode while at the fair and then de-list all the items that sold before opening up shop again. I will not have internet with me while at the fair, so this is what I will do.

Good Luck and have fun!!

Re: Listing items on Etsy that are sold elsewhere

I was wondering about that too, I am doing a show u=in a couple of weeks. I was thinking about just deactivating pieces I take with me, then reactivating whatever doesn't sell. Does that take them off completely? And it it OK to do according to Etsy rules? Hmmmm...

Re: Listing items on Etsy that are sold elsewhere

When I've had an item in two spots, I deactivate on Etsy. If your item doesn't sell you can easily reactive your items by going into your Inactive Listings link. I've done it in the past and have never had any problems with it. Plus, I've had items 'inactive' because I rushed and didn't completely follow through after editing so I try to check that link every once in a while. I have the item I first sold on Etsy still sitting in 'Inactive Listings' so they don't take them off.

I would leave the items up you can replicate and deactivate the OOAK while you are at the show.
