Links in Listings?

Hi All!

I tried to search for a previous thread on links in listings and couldnt find one. Maybe someone can clear this up for me!

Do you put links to similar items in your shop in the description area of listings?

I've heard that Google search/ shopping doesn't recognize your listings when you do? But does it help Etsy buyers navigate through your shop easier?

Is it just a personal preference or does it make a big difference in being found?

Thanks!
Carolyn

Re: Links in Listings?

Hands up for links in listings.
If you have a matching item for certain product in your shop...include the link. If you have similar items, include the link...I always include links in my descriptions.

I also include a link to my policies page.

This is a way of driving traffic into your own shop and it works for me.

I think it's a clever idea to include a link in your listings

Re: Links in Listings?

I sure do! And I get a fair amount of traffic that way. Most sellers find you by item and may not think to click on the proper links to get to the rest of your store. So I usually have sections at the bottom of my listings that say something like,
"Looking for the same item but in gold? Click here..." and
"Or check out my homepage for similar items..." etc

I don't suggest saturating your listings with other links. I've been turned off from buying from some people because they have 10+ items links in their description, but definitely consider adding 2 or 3. Best of luck!

Re: Links in Listings?

Definitely add the links. What I've noticed in my stats is that someone will search (for example) angel necklace and I can see that they only looked at one. So I added a link with a note saying to please check out my other angels in my Angel Jewelry Section at: then I add the link.
I do the same thing with my shop link and also my Clearance Section link. I've gotten more views from doing this. And I did read somewhere that it does help you get found...I think it helps with Google search because I get a lot more views from Google than I used to.

Re: Links in Listings?

I did read somewhere a while back that adding links in the listing help you be more visible.
I am not sure how relevant that is today with all the changes taking place. It seems you learn one thing and it's changed all over again.
However my listing all have links in them

Re: Links in Listings?

I have a back link to my homepage in my descriptions. I used to have the back link to the section that it was in, but I got the point that I have a "boiler plate" section in my descriptions where I basically cut and paste it in all my descriptions, and I just find it easier just to have it to the main shop.

Re: Links in Listings?

I always add back links to my descriptions. It's about similar style items, items to match with, my shop or my policies.
