Ladies with names and ladies without?

Hi, I wonder if anyone can offer any help or advice. In my shop I sell lots of original artwork, a lot of the paintings are of little ladies and I have quite a few more to add - what I'd like advice on is naming artwork.

Do you like artwork with a girls name - Lana, Sarah, you get the idea - or would it put you off slightly?

Do you think I am better sticking with more generic titles?

I usually think up a title once the artwork is finished so advice on this subject would be greatly appreciated.

Yvonne x

Re: Ladies with names and ladies without?

I don't think it's off-putting. I sometimes search here on Etsy for my name, or my sisters, to see what I find. And to see if it 'fits' us. It's fun and I'm sure I'm not the only one who does this. So I say go for it - just make sure you tack the name toward the end of your Title, for SEO purposes.

I favorited your shop earlier this evening. :-)

Hi Christina

Thanks for your advice - I see what you mean about a search that 'fits' you I think I might put Yvonne in and see what comes up. I'll maybe name one or two of my ladies and see how it goes.

Thanks for the favourite :0)

Re: Ladies with names and ladies without?

Hello Yvonne,
I do not thin it is off putting, especially if you get that vibe from your paintings, if you look at one of your ladies and it just really seems that a certain name fits then why not name them? If people don't like it, but they really do like the art work I think they will still buy it, and just ignore the name Or even use it as a talking point about the painting. Also without sounding sexist some men have trouble buying gifts sometimes and well they are possibly more likely to buy a painting if it carries their ladies name, image " I got this beautiful painting for you honey, it was inspired by your beauty and therefore carries your name" I know that is something my Dad would do.

That said I think you could leave one or two without names, make them ladies of mystery and intrigue, You may find them to be even more popular than the ladies with names.

Thank you very much for your advice, you put that perfectly. I hadnt thought about men buying gifts but thats an excellent idea- its the sort of thing my dad and husband would do too!

I'll introduce a few with names and keep some with similar titles to the ones I have x

Re: Ladies with names and ladies without?

hi Yvonne, I was wondering the same thing with my llama illustrations. To name or not to name?? I've settled (for now) on giving them a name but placing it at the end of the item title for SEO purposes.

This one is called Oscar :o)

Re: Ladies with names and ladies without?

I actually love them being given names, just make sure it's at the end of the title so it doesn't affect your search results. I find it gives the picture more character ♥ And from what Christina said, I personally don't search my name (but I think I will now xD) but you could always try to add the name as a tag if you find you're having trouble filling them all up. I do from time to time and it's quite frustrating! I end up falling back on team tags.

Re: Ladies with names and ladies without?

I love names and I love original titles. Why not both? Say one was named Jessica. You could call it Jessica in the Garden of Dreams (I took that title from one I really liked.) I love it either way! Gorgeous art!

Thanks very much for the advice. Named little ladies will appear soon and I'll keep in mind about keeping the names at the end of my description :0)

Sheri - I love Oscar! Right away I thought of my grandfather who was named Oscar and it made me smile. There is an emotional component to names, for the right buyer, so adding some to your listings may really work well for you and Yvonne.

Re: Ladies with names and ladies without?

I think naming it makes it alot of the time.

when a potential buyer looks at a piece of art...like a little girl and then sees the name, its like "awe, little sara" etc...sooo cute

Re: Ladies with names and ladies without?

You should name them whatever you wish, then stand behind your decision. Good luck!
