Hello,

Can anyone give some advice on keyword selection and the best way to label items for sale?

Thanks so much!

Re: Keyword help!!!

I'm sort of in the same boat as you, unsure of which labels work. I try to use the color of the object, and some adjectives people might use when searching. I try to put myself in their place and think of words I might use to search. Like, for a recent pair of earrings I posted, I used words like: summery, glittery, dangly. As well as words describing how they were made like upcycled and bottlecap. I can't really think of other words people would use to search that kind of thing, so I dont know what else to put...

Re: Keyword help!!!

I took a look at some of yours - cute earrings btw!

Does it really work to group words in tags like that? Like, do they have to search for all the words in one particular tag or just one of them? Take your tag "aqua teal" for instance. If I just searched for aqua earrings, would yours come up?

Re: Keyword help!!!

Thank you! I am not sure, some of them I group and some I put single words. I tried testing a pair once and no matter what I put they would come up on page 14 of search. I think a lot has to do with how they customize their search...most recent....lowest price...etc. I am so lost no matter what I try traffic remains slow.

The most helpful thing I have found is buying into a showcase!

Re: Keyword help!!!

Break down the key words and be sure you are using keywords that really describe what you are selling.

Example: The "Steampunk" earrings are not. They are Celtic Knots. The Celtic lovers would never find those earrings and the Steampunk people will be disappinted when they click on the listing and there aren't cogs, gears, or other steamy goodness to be had. I know it's natural to want to get on the boat for whatever the hot new trend is to pull in buyers, but you have to have truth in advertizing.

Another example:
http://www.etsy.com/listing/74875490/big-butterfly-earrings-gold

Butterflies are ox brass or bronze but not "gold". IMHO

Break down keywords into their simplest form=: Example:
Instead of Gothic Evil Eye-do
Gothic
Evil
Eye

Instead of Deep Blue Sapphire-do
Blue
Sapphire

Instead of Gypsy Bohemian Renaissance-do
Boho
Bohemian
Gypsy
Renaissance
