Is this considered Spam?

Hey everyone!
I hope everyone is enjoying their May!
So I have been trying to figure out how to boost my feedback with customers.
With that said, is it considered spam to offer customers a coupon if they send me feedback? If it is oh well, but if it isn't I know there's a risk if I upset someone with my service.
I need your opinion! :)
Best,
Kelly

Re: Is this considered Spam?

Hey, Kelly,

Buy something from me and I'll show you how I do it.....just kidding...lol!

Good question, really.

I put a little note in my invoice area that only the buyer will see at the bottom of your info and appearance page, there is an area listed as message to buyer. I thank them for their purchase, ask them to let me know if they have any problems, questions, suggestions for products and services by sending me a message then follow it with a request for feedback.

Only a few have not done it, so I send them a convo asking if everything was alright and if they needed anything else. After they respond, I ask if they might take a moment to leave me feedback for my shop.

After each feedback, I thank them, tell them that they are welcome back anytime and give them a discount code to use anytime in the future.

I have only received good comments on this approach for both of my shops, so it feels alright to me.

Good luck!

Re: Is this considered Spam?

I just say in each feedback I leave for my customers to contact me if they wish to receive a coupon code to receive 25% off their next order. I've had a few take advantage of the offer and since I did not initiate the contact I don't consider it spamming.

Re: Is this considered Spam?

I always leave feedback for a shop when I make a purchase but I personally would not want you to message me and ask me to leave feedback for you if I forgot.

I love receiving feedback from my customers but I would never ask them to leave it. As they say, "no feedback is good feedback".

Re: Is this considered Spam?

Yep, it is spam.
And even if it wasn't, you don't 'buy' feedback.

You either get it or not, since it is not obliged on Etsy and hard to find for buyers that are new to Etsy.
Not getting feedback equals good feedback though. If the customer thought something was wrong, they would definately contact you one way or another.

Re: Is this considered Spam?

Agree with BeaG.

It would be nice if all our customers left feedback, but as we all know, this isn't the case.

I just leave a little note on the invoice, mail dispatch email, saying, please don't forget to leave feedback.

That's it.

I wouldn't want to spam my customers, with unnecessary conversations.

Re: Is this considered Spam?

Katie,
The only reason why I started this thread was to sort of reignite the TOMA with my shop. They already "fell in love" with one of my items, I just thought it might be nice to rekindle that "love" if that makes sense haha.
Sorry to sound so cheesy! :)

Re: Is this considered Spam?

hmmm I don't know. It's irritating trying to get feedback off customers, many don't leave it but they message me telling me they like their pieces. I wouldn't suggest doing this, I'd consider it spam unless you set it up as a message which goes along with their invoice when they make a purchase, also it could lead to potentially false positive feedback. I think as a buyer I'd be extremely put off if a shop offered me a coupon to leave feedback, and if they gave you bad feedback would you still want to offer the code ? lol

Just a reminder in the message to buyers to encourage them to leave feedback, if they send you a message telling you they liked their order, you could respond with the offer. I don't think that constitutes spam

Re: Is this considered Spam?

I agree with you Alicia, I just thought it was worth a shot asking the team :).
I have put the prompt for feedback in my initial response, but I think I'm going to add it on my handwritten notes that I add to orders.
Thanks everyone for the advice!
