Is it slow everywhere, or only in my shop?

This is the time of year that people start thinking summer.... I should be making shorts and bikinis until my hands bleed.... :-) But I had only 1 sale this month so far.... Is everybody still snowed in? I use the extra time to work on new projects, but still... I would really need more sales.....

Re: Is it slow everywhere, or only in my shop?

you need to play with your tags. i am not seeing enough detail about the item to pull your buyers in. you should use the word scarf more for instance in your scarf item tags. black scarf, knitted scarf, neck scarf, pattern scarf, winter scarf, women scarf.

repeat the tag of the item multiple times and describe your item better.

the more viewers = higher sales

Re: Is it slow everywhere, or only in my shop?

Thanks, Michele.... I've been trying to work on the tags, but there still is more to do.... (I also need better pictures for at least some items) I'm just reading the Etsy Guide to SEO to better understand what I'm doing.... :-)

Re: Is it slow everywhere, or only in my shop?

I also started repeating the main description like "Infinity Scarf" several times throughout the text, and I tried to put more details into the titles.... Generally I am selling more bikinis and shorts, because there isn't that much competition in being found....

Re: Is it slow everywhere, or only in my shop?

March is better for me than January or February, but I'm just getting started , so that might not hold true for everyone.

Re: Is it slow everywhere, or only in my shop?

Thanks, Emily! :-) I know how it feels to be poor! Maybe later.....
In that connection (maybe an idea for a different thread): Do you guys ever contact the people that favorite your items? Some sellers do that and offer a discount.... And they do get sales out of it... I was one of the buyers a couple of times... :-) I haven't done that yet... always thought it might be pushing too hard....

Re: Is it slow everywhere, or only in my shop?

Yea, I haven't had any sales in February or any this month so far! I'm really hoping things start to pick up. I'm not sure what's going on!

Re: Is it slow everywhere, or only in my shop?

Things have only gotten busier for me - February was totally overwhelming for me, and so far March has been even crazier. I'm working around the clock trying to get orders out as quickly as I can.

I know A LOT of other sellers are having the total opposite problem though, having a hard time getting sales. Just keep working away and you'll get through the slow times. :)

I have to ask, how have you been promoting? Promoting off Etsy is what brings in the sales for me - I find the majority of my sales come from Wanelo, but twitter and facebook (if used well), Pinterest, etc., are great too.

Re: Is it slow everywhere, or only in my shop?

Amanda, thanks for your advise! :-) So far, Twitter and Facebook didn't really work for me. I might be using it wrong, or don't put enough hours in.... The 'like actions' don't get me anywhere either.... Mostly other sellers.... Not the right target group..... Then there were Artfire, Storenvy. Lilyshop...... My daughter is doing Tumblr and a little Pinterest for me. I haven't tried Wanelo yet. Must look into it. Is it just pictures/links, or setting up shop? I have wasted a lot of time and wasn't always sure what I was doing.... I'd like to concentrate on one (a few?) things effectively....

Once you find your target market (it's a different season on the other side of the world) Then you can promote more effectively. If social media hasn't been working for you, you may try a newsletter and have the subscription link on your social media. Those who are interested will subscribe.

Re: Is it slow everywhere, or only in my shop?

Thanks, Bethie... Sounds good! You're right, my winter bikinis mostly go to Australia... Only one to Norway, waiting at the fireplace for the snow to melt... :-) Looking into Wanelo right now....

Re: Is it slow everywhere, or only in my shop?

Hi Gaby, yes, slow here too. Just wanted to answer your question about contacting people who favourite your items - Etsy does not allow you to do this (tho' I know some sellers do - had one myself). It is seen as spam and would put a lot of people off as they favourite loads of things without any intention of actually buying them!
Here's to sales picking up for all of us :)

Re: Is it slow everywhere, or only in my shop?

Thanks for sharing! :-) Yes, February was actually better than expected, so I thought March would be real busy..... The views are good, but.....
Gillian, thanks for letting me know. I didn't know it was officially considered spam, but it felt that way.... That's why I never started doing it.... Couldn't forget when it happened to me... I had already bought somewhere else, but couldn't say no to that seller.... Kind of felt obligated.... I know, that's just me, being weak.... But it worked for the seller.... Now I barely have any favorites although I like a lot. of things.... :-)
Good luck with your sales to all of you.

Re: Is it slow everywhere, or only in my shop?

I sell knit and crochet stuff as well. I get the majority of my sales from Sept. through Feb. Sales have tapered off for me in the spring and summer. Non- seasonal and summer items haven't done well for me. My Feb. and March have been slow too.

Re: Is it slow everywhere, or only in my shop?

I just opened my shop in January but no sales yet. I have two other Etsy shops and they have been really slow too.

Re: Is it slow everywhere, or only in my shop?

I am really slow today. And my sales are off also. I worked really hard yesterday listing, treasury building, revamping tags and posting in forums. I think I wore myself out. So today I kicked back a bit

My conclusion is this time of year you have to work extra hard to get a sale

Ps. My feedback is even slow

Re: Is it slow everywhere, or only in my shop?

Yep, slow views, slow sales (read: no sales), and slow feedback. It must just be that time of the year? I keep putting up new listings but no one is buying.....
