Is it important to have a website for my items?

I was working on my about me page and I was wondering is it important to have a website for my shop? Like if people want to see my stuff wouldn't they just go to my etsy? Not to website then to my etsy?

It depends upon your goals. I have a website with an about page, contact form, and some pics. Then I have a "shop" tab that links directly to Etsy. I use my website everywhere (biz cards, social media, blog features). That way no matter where I end up, I will have control of that website and won't lose the traffic I am building.

Good idea Amanda! How do you get a regular website?

DON'T use GoDaddy. Or if you think you might want to, please do your due diligence.

You'll need a domain name. You can get those lots of places. I'm currently using Hover.com for this.

Then you'll need a web site. That can be a blog or PictureTrail.com site. Techy folks may want to design their own site. In this case, you'll need to hook up with a web hosting company. I like Lunarpages.com for this.

Hope this helps!

I had a website though vistaprint, It was about 35 a month and you get a free month. You could design the site yourself using their build a website editing tool and included a blog. but they are more expensive, I have heard good things about Godaddy but It depends on whatever works for you.,

Re: Is it important to have a website for my items?

I use ipage.com .... my husband used it for his blog for work and really liked it but I have had some issues -- that are now sorted out. The technical help is WONDERFUL. You can chat with them 24 hours a day and they will help you tremendously (I am not a techy girl).

I have a website with an about page, a page with items from my shop and then a blog. I blog about once a week. I get a lot more traffic than when I first started ... but no comments or anything. I think it takes time. Having a website I think helps you develop your "brand".

Re: Is it important to have a website for my items?

I use bluehost for my other website, it includes several e-mails, it's pricey but handles traffic really well. However, I am still holding off on my shop's website until I make a little bit more of revenue, lol. I will probably use Bluehost again and use wordpress, I plan on buying a pre-made shop template, can anyone recommend a wordpress template for an etsy shop?
