My shop has grown slowly in the 2-1/2 years I've been here. I've reworked titles, tags, and pictures. September was going along pretty well, but now I feel I'm invisible! I rarely get a hit from Google, my search and views here are going down to practically nothing. Today, I haven't had ONE view in 11 hours, and from Friday through Sunday, I had 46 listing views (21 from search) and only 4 favorited.

I offer a variety of jewelry styles & prices while at the same time trying to keep my look cohesive. I really dislike complaining, but I'm baffled.

Re: Is It Style? Prices?

there's no need to repeat necklace a million times in the title; not every listing can be relevant for every search phrase that fits for it. But at least one phrase (the first one is a good one) should be something people search fairly often :)

How about "Dangle and Charm" for a shop name? I'll take the beautiful green charm bracelet if I'm the winner;)

Re: Is It Style? Prices?

I agree that your keywords could use some work. For this listing I would use:

butterfly necklace or butterfly pendant necklace if you need to narrow it down
green butterfly necklace
butterfly charm necklace
brass chain necklace
long brass necklace
beaded butterfly necklace
turquoise butterfly necklace
vintage butterfly necklace

I struggle with backgrounds too. I can't stand the white backgrounds and I have a hard time getting my items to look good on a dark background, so I've been using gray. However my items sometimes blend into my backgrounds too, at least for the thumbnails. I love your photos, but your jewelry might be hard to see in the thumbnails. Maybe you can use white backgrounds for your thumbnails and then your pretty, artistic photos for the other four. Something I'm trying to talk myself into.

How about Romantic Charm for a shop name? My first thought was that your shop sounded like a supply shop.

My shop has been slow this month too. I'm going on 9 days without a sale when I typically don't go more than 5-6 days, and usually less. I'm hoping it's the calm before the storm. ;)

Good luck!

Re: Is It Style? Prices?

I've been checking in search on the listings I changed. I'm nowhere to be found for the relevant terms I used to pull up in even though the exact phrase is in my title & tags. I'm so frustrated! And another search I just did for my heart locket necklace-I have the exact phrase in title & tags "vintage style purple jewelry. I don't pull up until page 4 even though most of the shops before that aren't as relevant...they have words in between that exact phrase. I'm afraid to go further in changing anything!

Thanks Amy-that was the next listing I was going to re-do but based on my findings with what I've already done, I don't know what to do.

Re: Is It Style? Prices?

I know how you feel Sandi, it is very frustrating. There are several keyword phrases I can't use because there are way too many items in those categories. So I narrow down where I have to. Unfortunately it seems to me that most buyers search broad terms, so I don't like to go too narrow if I don't have to, but sometimes there isn't a choice.

I know there are lots of items that don't have the exact phrase you search for, but I think those sellers have more sales and views making them more relevant. But I think a newer shop has to have the exact phrases to be relevant and get found. I could be wrong, but that is the impression I get.

I definitely don't have it all figured out. One thing Etsy does is they rotate relevant items. This is good and bad. I will have an item on page one of a search get lots of views and even a sale or two and then it will disappear into oblivion. On the other hand I will have an item that was way back in a search with hardly any views suddenly show up on page one.

I would suggest changing a few more of your items and see what kind of results you get. But give it some time. Then tweak some more based on what you learned. It's all a big experiment!

Re: Is It Style? Prices?

Sandi, it takes about a week for an item to achieve full relevancy for something (while Etsy gathers info about how buyers interact with your item in search - hearts, clicks, etc.)

Re: Is It Style? Prices?

I think your lovely items get lost in the backgrounds.

You have earthy items with earthy backgrounds.

You have scripty items with scripty backgrounds.

They need to stand out, not blend in. . .

You can hate the white all you want, the white gets the job done. . .
