I need constructive criticism

I am always looking for ways to improve my new Etsy shop, and it is helpful to have an extra "pair of eyes". So I thought I'd ask you, my fellow Etsians, to take a look at my shop and tell me what could be improved.
Honesty is very much appreciated.
Thanks!

WOW, you design this fabric. It's lovely.
The only thing I can think of is to maybe arrange my colors.
When you add more things to your shop maybe you can even make your sections by colors.
And the adorable bunny fabric, I would link to the calender you made it from. That way your customer can see both and maybe even purchase both.
You have a wonderful eye, I really love your talent:)

Hi NewMomDesigns.

Your shop is appealing to the eye.

I do have a few suggestions for you. Up in the left corner where it reads your shop name, well the words under it get picked up by google. I would suggest you remove the duplication of your shop name and make it descriptive about your products. "Cotton Quilting Fabric". Whatever words you thin people will Google.

Same goes for the first few lines of the description. You may want to repeat your title right off when writing the description.

Happy sales to you!
Julie

Re: I need constructive criticism

I think you have great and unique products, which is a big plus. They're also really pretty.

Your profile is not filled out. I would really consider putting something in there. Don't make it so long that it's a chore to read, but this is a good place to say something about how you got into this, why you do this, how you do this, inspiration...just interesting stuff about yourself. People really like this and it helps to put a "person" behind the product.

You don't have your shop policies filled out at all. This is also a big deal to a lot of people. Here's a link to a post that I find really helpful with this: http://lifecraftinessandeverythingelse.blogspot.com/2009/05/etsy-sellers-tips-shop-policies.html

You have a really great shop. I really like your products. I hope this helps.

Re: I need constructive criticism

Lovely fabrics!

Just a small suggestion: Remove the real pumpkins from the main photo of "IT'S GOURD FLOWERS" fabric. I actually find the real pumpkins a little distracting especially since they're a completely different color than the colors you used on the fabric. Also, I can't tell but did you make a pillowcase with that fabric? If so, maybe a wider photo of the pillow on a bed (perhaps with a very plain comforter so just the pillow stands out).

I'd love to see more photos in each listing:
1. Perhaps of the fabric folded
2. Fabric wrapped up in your packaging
3. An item made out of your fabric

Very unique designs!

Good luck!

Re: I need constructive criticism

All great suggestions above. My only thought is along the lines of City Sister's suggestion....showing your fabric 'in use' with each fabric choice. I know you have for at least a couple, but I'd like to see more pillows, aprons, or what have you, made out of the fabric? does the make sense. Great stuff. Something I've been thinking about doing myself and I'd be interested in speaking with you since you're already in the 'doing it mode'. I'll convo you. Just love the bull finches!!!

Re: I need constructive criticism

Love your designs....and, the pictures you have of the actual fabric seem crisp and well lit.
I agree with the previous comments, especially about using all your picture opportunities. Close up, the whole piece, how it is packaged when you get ready to mail it, and made up in something. If possible it would be interesting to see a picture of you working on your creation or something about the process.
Great talent!

Re: I need constructive criticism

I love the fabrics, so beautiful, so colorful. I had to click a bit to figure out the dimensions of a fat quarter. I was wondering about some framed pieces, but that might be expensive. Good luck!

Re: I need constructive criticism

First of all, I make art quilts, and I used to work as a custom textile designer, so I know where you are coming from and I admire your work. I agree with citysister- show fabric folded, in a really appealing photo, as your main shot. Once you pull the buyer in they'll look at the other shots and see the detail. My only other suggestion is to add more patterns, as possible, to offer a wide variety. I think you have a great idea!

Re: I need constructive criticism

Pretty shop, lovely products and good photos (well lit, bright colors!). Here are my suggestions.

1. Fill up your shop. The more items in your shop the more likely you are to be found by searches. Anything that can be replicated, list more than once. Use different first photos, and vary up the descriptions on identical items. (My shops really took off after I had 100 items listed).

2. Break up your profile into paragraphs. Tell your story. What brought you to etsy? How do you create? What are your favorite things to create with? Let people get to know you. :o)

3. In your item descriptions, you need to work on keywords and SEO. Think about words that people would use to search for your items, and incorporate those in the first few sentences of each listing. The more "keyword rich" your descriptions are, the easier people will find you.

Best to you!

Sandie
