For the last week I have been trying to improve my shop. I know I need a banner and a friend of mine is creating one for me. I was trying to go for an all white background but some stones do not show well against the all white back round. I had to add a back round on some pieces and this is just throwing the look of my shop all off. Any suggestions? Please comment on the image quality and any other things you may notice that will help me improve my shop. Thanks in advance. :)
Hi, I'm no expert, but I don't think the colored back ground looks all that bad. I do think, though, that they would look better w/o the fade in around the edges.
I think the darker background looks fine - I agree with the above comments about the fade. It would be great to use models with the jewelry if you're able to. A few shops I've seen have unique ways of displaying jewelry - I've seen a few on the front page that show earrings hanging off coffee mugs and the like. You may want to look around to see how other shops are showing their items to see what types of photos show the piece off best.
I would use your best judgment. For the items you have on the tan backgroud, I don't think it looks bad. You don't want the stone to get lost in the background.
You could try using a textured background like a piece of white suede or textured scrapbook paper to see if that can help the lighter stones stand out more while not being distracting. You could still get the white look while catering to your shop's items and perhaps helping to build a brand.
Thanks everyone, not sure what I am going to do. This is a tuff one for me. Back to being ocd lol. If anyone has any other ideas or thoughts PLEASE do share. Thanks :)
I find that once you have found a style/uniform.. that makes your shop stand out.. Stick to it! I have changed my style over and over again and now I finally feel like I got it.
It is all about lighting - style and uniform.
I tried plain white paper, a white tile, white lace, wood, printed patterned paper...
I think your photos are great, but I thought that your descriptions were a bit short. If someone were to buy a pair of earrings for around $60, I think they will need a little something more convincing. These was a great blog post about telling a "story" on the etsy blog not too long ago. It was part of the success symposium, you may want to start there.
The white backgrounds look great but I agree, some colors don't show up as well on such a stark background. I would recommend getting a colored mug or teacup and hanging your jewelry from that, while still using a white background. I've seen that done many times with jewelry sellers and I think it's really charming.
