How to organize my 8x10 prints...

I'm trying to decide something in my shop and I'd love y'all's opinons on the matter. A couple of times now, I've had customers purchase several items from my shop (yay!), but they accidentally purchased a mixture of printed 8x10s and printable 8x10s. People typically like one or the other and, sure enough, when I asked them they had meant to purchase the printed versions (where I print and ship to them).

So here's my problem - I'm trying to figure out how to better organize my shop. Right now, I have the word 'PRINTABLE' as the first word in my headlines for all my printable items, but that's clearly not cutting it. So should I:

1. Create a listing that says "Purchase the printable version of any of my 8x10s", make it a featured listing (so that it's always at the top of my shop), and then just have them tell me in the Notes to Seller Section which print they want

Pros - less listing fees, less duplicate content
Cons - might get confusing, would have to give each print a "code" or something, to avoid confusing (I have TWO giving tree prints, for example)

OR

2. Just create duplicates of every item for sale and do a graphic over the main listing picture that says PRINTABLE. In the headline, too, but in the picture, just in case someone doesn't read the fine print, so to speak.

Pros - Lots of listings...doesn't Etsy like that?
Cons - lots of listing fees; duplicate content?

What do you guys think?

Hmmm a good question ..... not sure which is best. Maybe it's the word "printable" that is confusing people since it's so close to printed. Perhaps instead of printable you could use PDF Digital File. That might clear up some confusion between the listings.

Good luck!

Re: How to organize my 8x10 prints...

I would go for lots of listings- I like a full shop :-)
And I think adding the word printable to the pic may work too. Also just make sure you state and restate in the description that no physical item will be sent. I have had a few similar issues in my shop as I sell printables too.

Also, maybe a separate section just for printables would help?

Jo :-)

Rachel - that's a good idea!
Joanne - Thank you! I do have a section for printables, but that doesn't seem to help. But maybe with "PDF digital file" in the headline, a separate section AND the word "printable" on the picture will help!

Perhaps you should also make the printable and printed items in your shop visually different?
Maybe display the printables in a different way?

Re: How to organize my 8x10 prints...

I took a peak and saw that you added the digital PDF banner on the pics, I think that looks great and the digital ones really stand out as different from the other ones now. Hopefully you won't have any issues anymore!!

Cheers!

yes, I took everyone's advice here and I'm (sloooowly) creating new printable listings with the very clear banner on the main listing photo!

Thanks for the advice everyone!

Re: How to organize my 8x10 prints...

I think the banner does help define it, but I really think that the description could be MUCH clearer. I think there's a couple of lines that are confusing: Basically, I don't think you should use the word PRINT to describe your work in a printable listing. Here's your listing: (My comments in brackets)

SIZES AND BORDERS AND COLORS, OH MY!

Print measures 8x10 inches with a 3/4" white border all around. (Don't use the word PRINT- maybe say PDF Image measures.....)

If you would like a complimentary color change, please reference my color chart for the best consistency.

SO I ORDERED IT...WHAT COMES NEXT?

You can print 8x10 prints at all print shops, places like Office Depot or Staples, and online stores like 123Print or VistaPrint. (I think you're first line could say: You will receive your digital file via your etsy email. Now you're ready to print it at your favorite print shop, like Office Depot, or online via VistaPrint.)

Or, for lifetime-lasting brightness, ask your local printer if they can do archival printing.

**Please note - the black frame around the display photo will not be included - this listing is for a print only. (To me, this is confusing - you shouldn't say PRINT ONLY when it's not a print. Simply say, Frame & Matte are examples only)

And since this is a digital product, there are NO SHIPPING FEES!!

The other option you have is to make print/printable options under the new Etsy drop down selection menus. It means you would charge the same price (explaining that by saying you can print this multiple times, as a gift for friends & family etc.) Then you state either that you refund shipping, OR you could set up a voucher that discounts it by the price of shipping. Not sure, this is a little more complicated, but just putting it out there:)
Maybe Etsy will eventually develop it so that when we choose different options, different prices come up. One can dream!!

Hope this helps! Best Wishes, Melinda

Great suggestions from Melinda!
Of course the customer still needs to READ the description which doesn't always happen lol, but you can't do much about that!
