How often to renew, and which items?

There are some threads about this, but the most recent is from last October. I was hoping to hear more recent recommendations from folks with experience...

Is it more productive to renew ONE item several times a day, or SEVERAL items every day? Which method brings more views and sales?

Thanks!

I don't renew items. waste of money, I think it's a throwback from the days when etsy's searches were all based on "most recent".

Re: How often to renew, and which items?

I only renew when something expires and then only if I've sold at least one in the last 4 months.

I'm on a bit of a crusade to spend the least amount possible in Etsy fees so I've been consolidating and cleaning out my shop all year.

Yeah, I only renew when things expire. I'm not horribly worried about when items get pushed back.

Your time (and money) is better well spent when you work on your tags and self-promotion.

Re: How often to renew, and which items?

I do renew most days but I spread it out throughout the day. A customer can search either way, most recently listed or relevant . And if they choose relevant the items are chosen from the most recent listed. Usually when I renew an item it shows up in my activity feed meaning someone has put it in their favorites so I think it helps to keep you in the loop.

Only when it expires here too.... I tried the whole 'renew each day' thing back when we'd first opened in Oct 2012 as i didn't have a lot of stock, but I found it to be a waste of money. Once I got my tags sorted we immediately jumped up the list.

Re: How often to renew, and which items?

Personally I'll only renew items on the day that they are going to expire.

Before you renew something I would ask yourself what renewing that item will get you.

Unless you review the title and tags it won't help (very much) with SEO at all.

And any searches outside of Etsy really don't care when an item was listed.

So why waste your money?

Re: How often to renew, and which items?

I only renew when things are going to expire. I prefer to list new items as this brings in way more traffic. :)

I agree that this could be leftover from back in the day. :P

Re: How often to renew, and which items?

I do renew and get sales most the time. I only renew a few items a week on Mon Tues & Wed around 8-9 pm.
I decided on those days & time frame because most my sales come from west coast.

Re: How often to renew, and which items?

I only renew when about to expire and I try to remember to check the titles, tags, etc. before I do. Sometimes I forget to take out a holiday tag or have learned a better way, etc.

Re: How often to renew, and which items?

When I don't have new things to list, I *do* renew 2 or 3 items a day. This gets me more views than if I don't relist, so I feel that it's worthwhile.

Re: How often to renew, and which items?

I renew several items every day, often interspacing them with newly listed items. The newly listed and newly renewed items always get more views.

That said, I never renew the same item more than once a week, and sometimes I leave items un-renewed for the entire time frame just to leave them in the "long time listed" category. I have noticed that sometimes those items getting close to expiring suddenly pop up with a lot of traffic, so I know they have appeared early in the search results.

I especially find that if I renew in the middle of the night (like when I happen to not be able to sleep LOL) that those items will get views in higher proportion during the following few hours than other items in my shop do, and have resulted in more foreign sales.

It could be that since I have both vintage jewelry as well as handmade jewelry that I'm hitting two categories that have a higher "browse" factor, but that I cannot say. I can tell you that it does help and my sales have increased since I started renewing frequently.

Another factor to consider is your number of followers (which you really cannot control - just takes time) because the more followers you have the more often your new items will get hits as they pop up on the top of their activity feed as "new items from your favorite shops". More hits = more favs = more sales.

Re: How often to renew, and which items?

I renew when it expires or is about to. I have enough items in my shop that I have to do it at least 2-3 times a week.

Re: How often to renew, and which items?

Well I am a little bit new, from what I have read on this listing if I select an item and renew it, its costs me the listing fee for it being renewed and give it a longer listing frame, if I let it expire and relist it still charges me the same but is that a renewal or a new listing? Whats the difference really.

Re: How often to renew, and which items?

I only renew when they expire. I would rather add a few new products each day instead of spending money on something that is already listed. It might pay if you have really expensive items but most of my items are $5-$10 range so if I renewed every day then it would eat up my profit pretty quickly.

I renew as items are about to expire, and I try to add something new regularly.

Re: How often to renew, and which items?

I don't renew an item unless it has been sold or is about to expire. Renewing unexpired listings is usually a waste of money. It would be much better to spend time working on improving the SEO of you shop so that your listings can be found more often on Relevancy searches where most of Etsy's sales are made.
