Not even just in sales- also in the "is this the right thing for me?"

I have only had my store for 2 or 3 months. I've made 13 sales, which I think is okay/good for my genre. Since I've been open I have been on an emotional roller coaster! Falling in love with fabrics, being dejected after listing something I just know people will love. Excitement over a sale or being featured in a treasury. Wondering if doing this and taking time/money away from my family is the right thing. Seeing how much other people are selling; stressing about pricing and budgets...

Don't get me wrong- I love it!!! But I am just wondering if all these emotions are normal and if so, how long do they last? Do they ever regulate?

Re: How often do you get discouraged?

I hear the same solutions promote, work on your shop, list, renew, join teams, make treasuries, network, etc. Yes they are all correct, but sometimes no matter what you do it does not work and so you get discouraged. My biggest mistake was opening a shop on Etsy. I was doing fine. My friends loved my jewelry and I did shows and had my jewelry in shops.

Once I opened my shop two years ago and found that very few people wanted my jewelry everything started to go downhill. I became very depressed, rarely did shows and didn't resupply the shops.

But after a while I decided to forget about Etsy and concentrate on getting back into shows and shops. So while I did not close my Etsy shop, I no longer concentrate on it. I list when I have something to list and renew when things expire and forget about it.

I come to the forums for the fun of reading and posting, the rest, so they say is history.

Re: How often do you get discouraged?

I've gotten fairly discouraged lately. I've had my shop open since April and haven't made a single sale yet. I keep waiting; and hoping; and adding more items. It makes me kinda sad that I haven't sold anything, considering how much time I spend handmaking my items. However; I keep hoping for a sale and making more items in the mean time; I believe in my products! It's definitely a normal thing to feel.

Re: How often do you get discouraged?

I have been on Etsy for a month and a half, and haven't gotten discouraged so far, though there are moments when I wonder when my sales are going to pick up. For me, it's just a matter of realizing that it's hard to get a business off the ground, and as a new seller, it may take a while.

Re: How often do you get discouraged?

At the moment every time I check the stats :)
August was quite good and I thought I might finally get my first sale (been open almost 7 month now). But as soon as September came, my views slipped right down into the cellar!
It's really not easy to keep thinking positive and I'm starting to lose my will to make as well - it just doesn't seem worth the effort, if nobody wants the things I make ...
