How many listings should you have?

That is all. Right now I have 71, should I strive for 200 or something?
Thanks!

Re: How many listings should you have?

I heard 100 is the magic number, but I'm sure its different for each shop!

Re: How many listings should you have?

Oh, love you! (Your shop is great!)
Um, and, I have way too many listings in my shop, then! LOL
I am trying to clean house....Changing my shop around, since my knitting patterns sell way better than pre-knit items.
So, while my shop is crazy, right now, I am having a huge sale, to clean out the pre-knits, and keep my shop simpler.
I don't know, but I think it is nice, to have variety, but keep things, at least somewhat, cohesive! Your shop seems great, that way...
When I looked in your shop, I loved your style, but did almost wish for a few more selections. You see, though I, personally, loved so many things, I know that only certain styles look most becoming.:)

Re: How many listings should you have?

I have heard that 100 helps get you seen more, the more items you have the more chance google has of finding you as well i am told.
I am aiming for the magic 100 , hopefully in time for Christmas shopping, but i want to retain my Little Nore theme and not go wildy off track in a bid to just have loads items.

Thanks for the tip..Once I get caught up on my orders. I am going to start listing a lot of knits, and linen. Do you have any reccomendations of what types of things you would like to see?

Thanks,

Re: How many listings should you have?

Hi Rachel,

The more items you have, the more likely you are to have someone stumble upon you when they are searching. However, 200 may be a bit much to make and keep track of.

I currently have 101 items, but my views are not that much higher than they were at 75, 80 or 90 items. It's not like once you get to 100 a magic switch will go off and you will suddenly get more views. All those listings still have to be relevant, well-photographed, etc.

As for what you should be making...what items are getting the most hits? Every person will tell you something different, so rely on your shop stats for this type of info. Which items have the most views? Which get the most favorites? Which get into the most treasury lists?

When you go to shop stats, go to This Year and scroll down and see what your top keywords are. My top keywords are usually Harry Potter-related, so that's a hint to add more of those items. If HP items bring people to my shop, then hopefully they'll look around at my other stuff, as well!

Also, look at the treasury list page and see what the trending topics are. Since mid-August, I've been seeing a ton of fall colors, earth tones, and other autumn-themed trends. The fact that people are making full treasury lists of fall-themed pieces means that fall is on buyers' minds! Thus, include tags like "earth tones" for items that have brown/orange/tan, or maybe add something a little bit more cozy to your shop for the fall and winter. Hopefully, these will get picked up by those searching for seasonal items.

I know that was long, but I hope you can see what my "trend" strategy is! Also, read Etsy's merchandising blog posts each month: really helpful!

Re: How many listings should you have?

A few weeks back I was striving to just have one complete page full. Now I have 30 so I want to reach 50 in the next couple weeks :)

Re: How many listings should you have?

I have forty some, but I've had more than fifty and I did not see a difference in views. It would be too hard for me to try to reach 100 and still keep quality and diversity in my jewelry, so I have to hope people find me anyway.

Re: How many listings should you have?

I tend to hover around 110 items or so. I would like to list more, but man.... its time consuming. I do notice a slow down when I drop below 100 items.

Re: How many listings should you have?

I've never heard there was a number to strive for (like 100), but I have heard that the more listing you have, the easier you are to find. Does that go for sales too? The more sales you have, the easier you are to find? Just wondering if the amount of sales impacts your "find-ability"

Re: How many listings should you have?

There are 24 listings on a page, so 100 would give you 5 pages. When I see any more than that I get frustrated, and then check to see what sections the shop is divided into.

Last year going into the holidays, I managed to get up to 50 item listed, and had good sales. By January, I felt like my shelves were bare! So I'm hoping to have 60 or better items this year, and see what happens.

I better get knitting!
