How are you tagging with variations options

I have some new items that I will be listing and they are all the same in nature but just different colors. It seems convenient to use the variations option to avoid a listing fee for each individual item, but with a limited amount of tags I am not sure that is the best option.

Below is the item that I am referring to. I have the ribbons in sooooo many different colors and there are four or five different color jewel button option to pair them with. I have a few of the color combos listed separately now.

Any thoughts?

Re: How are you tagging with variations options

You know, I have a listing for every color and I include a color chart and a variations list with each listing. I don't know, I feel like I'll be more relevant that way. It's hard to squeeze in color tags for one listing.

Re: How are you tagging with variations options

If the product is the same but different colors, I would list one with the color variations and the same with jewel buttons.
You can add colors to the variation list.

Porsha,
I dont see why variations wouldn't work. I would list them individually just so there are more chances for you to be found, I think of listing as "advertising" money. I use variations because I do prints. Color choices are pretty straightforward. I still list the different color prints as well, just to give folks a visual.

Re: How are you tagging with variations options

Okay. I know that the different color choices offered in the variations will not come up in Etsy searches. So I think that I will continue listing them individually. Thanks for the help!

Re: How are you tagging with variations options

Here's an example:

I have all the planets listed separately. If I listed them as one item I would have been relevant for Curiosity's landing and Earth Day (for example).

But I still use the listing variations so the customer knows they have a choice.

Re: How are you tagging with variations options

If I were you, I would just list each item individually. It bulks up your shop.

I use variations for gift sets (customers can pick their own items to make a set) and for hat sizes.

Re: How are you tagging with variations options

I haven't started using variations yet. I think I'll wait to do that until after the holidays. Knowing my luck, ten people will order something in the color I DON'T have it made in and need it before Christmas :~/

Actually, I'm not sure I'll be using the feature at all. It'd probably make me start hating life. Individual listings it is!!!

Re: How are you tagging with variations options

I have a similar problem with one of my patterns, it's for 50 states and I want to be able to use different states as tags for searches, but also like the variations option. So my compromise has been to use 4-6 different states as tags per listing and then have a few listings. But every single listing has all 50 states available as an option so the buyer doesn't have to go to another listing to find their state. does that make sense?

So if you want to do something similar, you could do 4-5 colors per listing and have maybe 5-6 listings to cover all the colors as tags. Then make sure you have all the color variations in every listing so people don't have to hop to another listing to get a color they want. This will save you listing fees as you will have a few less listings, and make it more convenient for your customers since they don't have to hop around to find the color they want.

Cheers!
Rachel
