Hey Campers!

How are you liking boot camp so far? I'd love to hear if you're keeping up. Are there any tasks that have stumped you?

This week I challenge you to rework your photos. We have an exercise for newbies and a new article for more advanced photographers: http://www.etsy.com/blog/en/2011/mastering-depth-of-field-techniques-for-dynamic-photos/

Having difficulties? I will be checking in on this thread (along with the rest of the Seller Education Team) to help you! So keep us updated on your progress.

Have fun with it!

Danielle

Re: Holiday Boot Camp - Week 3!

Use all 5 shots to show all angles of the item. You've done it for some, but not others.

I'm not sure if you've done it on purpose to be artistic (something I'm not at all), but you don't see the entire piece of jewelry in the listing photo. As a shopper, I'd like to see it all so I don't waste my time having to click on it to see the full piece.

Sorry for the quickness, gotta go!!

Re: Holiday Boot Camp - Week 3!

Okay,
I modified the listing below adding a few of the photos I took this morning. The one that was originally on the site was the one with the plain white backdrop. I would greatly appreciate your honest feedback on the photos in the following listing. Are any of the photos weird or distracting? Does the one with the fuzzy background convey a sense of lifestyle? If so, what does it convey to you? Do you like it.

Thanks in advance for your feedback.

Re: Holiday Boot Camp - Week 3!

Thanks Donna (GotMilkGlassAndMore). I'll start being more conscientious about making sure the item is shown from all angles. I appreciate the feedback.

@EdwardsTreasures

Please take these suggestions as constructive criticism.

In this listing http://www.etsy.com/listing/79663415/crystal-copper-swarovski-crystal-dangle I am not sure why you have different items in the last photo. I would shoot some more of the earrings ... and specify that the buyer will get a new pair (not the ones worn on the model).

This listing http://www.etsy.com/listing/80520832/ganesh-necklacependant-handpainted-green

The first image is too busy - can you reshoot a pic of just the lovely necklace?

Use all 5 shots too. It helps buyers get a perspective.

Suggest you change "Thanks for visiting Edwards" ... to be a clickable link to go back to your shop. Or show a link to a matching pair of earrings, etc.

Re: Holiday Boot Camp - Week 3!

Since i have a lot of books and prints in my store, I find it difficult to give interesting yet accurate depictions of my books and what's inside. I did check out my camera manual for adjusting the settings to get more control over my photographing, so that's something!

Re: Holiday Boot Camp - Week 3!

This has been a great challenge for me this week. I've been retaking all my photos (ugh, what a chore!) and am much happier with the new ones. I didn't realize how many of my photos were blurry or even just dull. I'm now propping my camera on a stack of books and using the timer so that I can use as low an ISO as possible and get a crisp photo. I've only made it through a third of my listings or so. I'm completely photo'd out though, so I'll have to space out the rest of the photos across the next few days.

Re: Holiday Boot Camp - Week 3!

I think my threads got lost in all the ones above. I would love some feedback on the photos I've posted of my cards. Because my product is my photo, the one in my listing has to be perfect. Also, my other question was whether selling 4-6 photos as a pack and putting a pretty bow around them is enough to promote as a gift package. or should i actually wrap the cards in xmas paper and show them wrapped in this fashion. any help would be appreciated.

Heres something I wish I did from the start: FILE MY PHOTOS properly! I just flag them in iPhoto but when you are dealing with limited edition prints it can get complicated!
A tip for any newbies...
