Help with packaging, and web signature

Hi! I am selling art prints in my etsy shop, and for the first time today I had an email from a customer that she received them in bad condition, and she said she didnt like the packaging. I put them in a plastic file, with a thick carton in it ,so they dont bend, in an envelope.... She said they were bend and in bad condition. And another thing is that she was disappointed that they have my shop web address printed on (in very very small letters down edge). I told her off course that I will send her some others in better pack and without the web address.

The thing is that I am worried now, cause until now I didnt have any complains about my packaging, and I am not sure now what is the best way to do that. And about the website.... I thought that this is a signature and it is better to have it printed on. What do you do????

Re: Help with packaging, and web signature

Hi Stella
Anytime I buy prints they come in rigid photo mailers.... Like these from uline http://m.uline.com/mt/www.uline.com/BL_1656/Self-Seal-Kraft-Stay-Flats?un_jtt_redirect

As far as signature I wouldn't expect a website to be in the front of a print ever... Just a signature of the artist and maybe a print number

Re: Help with packaging, and web signature

Sometimes it doesn't matter how you package your product. I've had (personal) packages arrive damaged, after taking great care to protect the contents to a ridiculous level.

This is why I refuse to ship my artwork in a frame with glass:
I shipped a framed wedding gift to a hotel I was staying at. I signed for the delivery, picked it up from the desk that the delivery guy had set it on, and it was quite obviously shattered. Delivery guy was making a break for the door...!
I rather enjoyed lighting into him. Even if he wasn't the *&#$@% that smashed it, when there's a box marked "Fragile!" (on every single side) and you pick it up to hear the sound of shattered glass, obviously there's an issue!

(((sigh))) At least it was my own package. A customer would have certainly found a way to turn that one back on me. It's awful, as we have NO CONTROL over the handling!

(oh. sorry, that probably didn't help...)

As for the website info, I agree with Jen above- I would not want that included on the front of the artwork, no matter how teeny the letters are... Signature on the front, yes.
Web address, etc. should be added to the BACK of the artwork (a stamp or a sticker). That's my opinion...

Re: Help with packaging, and web signature

I would definitely take any lettering off of the front of your prints. You often see shops with their website/shop name on the front of the prints in the pictures, but this is generally refereed to as a 'watermark' to discourage people stealing your photos online and when you buy the print, it is removed.
If you want to add a personal signature of your name, it is generally done in *pencil* in the lower right-hand corner.
I second the uline mailers, they are inexpensive and the company ships fast.

Your prints are really cute, but I would not want your address printed on the front. Is there a way to mark it on the back so that they have your info if they want more, but it's not taking away from the art?
